The campaign team of one of the flagbearer aspirants of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kojo Bonsu, averred that the team will do all within its power to ensure the concerns raised about some discrepancies in the party’s voter register are resolved before Saturday.
Mohammed Alhassan, a spokesperson for the team, claimed the Kojo Bonsu campaign team supports the decision of Dr. Kwabena Duffuor to injunct the election, in order to compel the party to have the issues resolved to ensure a free and fair elections.
Mr. Alhassan speaking in an interview, stated categorically that: “We are of the view that there are discrepancies and that the discrepancies must be resolved before the elections and if the discrepancies cannot be resolved before the elections, then the elections should be postponed”.
“If we go through the document and still there are some discrepancies, we will bring it to the attention of the party and the election’s directorate, and if we are able to resolve it before Saturday, we can go to the elections, but if we are not able to resolve it before Saturday, then of course we will have to postpone it.”

Dr. Kwabena Duffuor’s campaign team in a letter to the General Secretary of the NDC, called the party to postpone the upcoming presidential and parliamentary primaries scheduled for this weekend, May 13, 2023, over alleged irregularities in the delegates’ album.
Dr. Duffuor went ahead to file an injunction application against the primaries, which was granted.
The Electoral Commission subsequently said it cannot supervise the election, due to the injunction.
Madam Jean Mensa, the Electoral Commission Chairperson at a meeting declared that: “in order that we are not cited for contempt, the Commission has taken the decision not to supervise the conduct of the Presidential and Parliamentary elections until after the determination of the case by the court.”
Subsequently, a meeting between the EC and the NDC to address outstanding issues ahead of Saturday’s primaries has been cancelled by the election management body.
NDC Confident Of Holding Primaries On Saturday
The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) claims that it is still hopeful the elections will be held as planned, despite a court injunction on its May 13 presidential and parliamentary primaries.
The NDC internal exercise is in limbo as the Electoral Commission has suspended its supervision of the election, following an injunction by one of the presidential candidates, Dr. Kwabena Duffor over concerns of an incomplete and inaccurate photo album.
However, in a statement, the party assured its members that steps are being taken to ensure that the event takes place as scheduled.
“The party is taking all legitimate and legal steps to pave the way for the presidential and parliamentary primaries on Saturday, May 13. The party is therefore confident that this temporary challenge will be quickly overcome to pave way for the holding of the primaries on schedule”, portions of the NDC’s statement read.
