Voters are afraid after a fight between two gangs of macho guys at the Assin Praso D/C School, which is thought to be between the NPP and NDC, leading to the injury of one person.

There were fights, gunfire, and numerous automobiles were damaged during the altercation. As a result, one injured person was quickly sent to the Assin Praso Presbyterian Hospital for medical attention.

Different eyewitness reports of the occurrence were given, which complicated the case further.

When Central Regional Minister, Justina Marigold Assan, visited the region, she claimed that the NDC was to blame for the violence because it was taking place in one of the NPP’s strongholds.

The Central Regional Communications Officer of the NDC, Gabriella Tetteh, denied these allegations, claiming that they were false and had been made up by the NPP.

However, the public was given the Electoral Commission’s assurance that the incident had no impact on the electoral procedures. The officer in charge of the Praso D/C Basic polling place, Sandys Boakye Yiadom Junior, reassured the media that the vote would still go on as scheduled despite the commotion.

Majority Leader In Parliament Predicts Win For NPP

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the majority leader in parliament, expressed confidence that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will win the current by-election in Assin North by a slim margin.

At Assin North, almost 41,000 registered voters are casting ballots at 99 polling stations to choose a new Member of Parliament for the constituency, after the seat was made vacant by a Supreme Court decree.

The Majority Leader made the prediction, while he spoke to reporters about the election process in Parliament.

“The one who emerges victorious may win with a very narrow margin, in hundreds and not thousands. That is my own perception. That is what I observed after spending two days in the communities along the main roads. My impression is that the NPP is on top in those areas. I will say in the region of about 40-60% in favour of the NPP.

“I went to some of the village settlements. In the ones I visited, it appears the NDC is also stronger in those communities. I will say about 45-55% in favour of NDC. That is why I’m saying that, it’s is going to be a very close contest. I believe that we will triumph, but it can’t be in thousands, but a few hundred.”

However, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, the member of parliament for Dormaa West, claimed that the bulk of the constituents support Gyakye Quayson of the NDC.

“They [constituents] love Gyakye Quayson so much and looking at what he’s going through, especially at the legal front, most of them would like to vote for him. They are saying that they even want another by-election because NPP will pour in the resources once there’s a by-election.”

James Gyakye Quayson of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Charles Opoku of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), and Bernice Enyonam Sefenu of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) are the three contenders for the Assin North Constituency position.
