Yvonne Nelson and Sarkodie

The host of Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana, Paul Adom Otchere, has added his voice to the Yvonne Nelson and Sarkodie controversy. According to him, Sarkodie’s response to Yvonne Nelson was inappropriate.

Sarkodie released a diss track “Try Me” in response to Yvonne Nelson’s memoir where she cited the rapper for impregnating her and refusing to take responsibility which led to having an abortion.

The book “I Am Not Yvonne Nelson” paints an unapproachable picture of the actress’s experiences as a young woman navigating life faced with difficult choices and one of the decisions was to abort a pregnancy she carried for rapper Sarkodie.

In Sarkodie’s response, he described Yvonne as a ‘debauched woman made for the street’.

Parts of the lyrics read:

“You gotta tell the world every goddamn nigga you fucked. You can’t just play the victim and paint a picture like you were just looking for love from all the d*cks that you sucked”.

Sarkodie

His response received a lot of resentment from the public, describing some of his lyrics as “slut shaming”.

Mr Paul Adom Otchere in his opinion said:

“For all what it’s worth, I think that Sarkodie owes Yvonne and the book readers a certain apology. It is true that Yvonne has brought out something she shouldn’t have, she is trying to play the victim and take advantage of the story but it is a true story. So he should have apologized to the general public and say, I’m sorry I was too young because you don’t want young boys to think that it is okay to have unprotected sex and impregnate a woman and you both agree to abort”.

Mr. Paul Adom Otchere

Additionally, he asserted that it is untrue that Sarkodie did not have a personal physician at the time of Yvonne’s abortion because he was doing okay as a musician.

As someone who invests so much in his public image, Mr Adom Otchere thinks this is a PR fiasco for Sarkodie. He said:

“In terms of PR, his apology should have come first”.

Counsellor Adofoli advises Yvonne Nelson

Relationship Counsellor and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) Practitioner Frank Edem Adofoli advised actress Yvonne Nelson not to listen to the reply of rapper Sarkodie to revelations contained in her book, stressing that Sarkodie saw the harmless revelations as an attack, hence his harsh reply.

Counsellor Adofoli advised the actress not to feel bad for writing her memoir and pouring out her heart.

He wrote in an open letter to Yvonne Nelson:

“Thanks for letting us know that making mistakes is better than faking perfections. Your book did not only reveal your life and your story but also the things we hide as a society. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad or guilty for telling your story. You don’t need to explain yourself because many people only understand you from their level of perception.

“For your own peace of mind, stop listening to the song of your ‘former friend’. Don’t try him for you have nothing to prove. He mistook your pain for an attack on his image and integrity. He sang out of anger so don’t take the words of the song to heart. That is why you have to stop listening to it”.

Counsellor Adofoli

In conclusion, he added:

“You two are good people who made some mistakes in the past, let the lessons learnt make you a better person and not a bitter one. You need counselling or therapy. Pain can shut you down, make you overthink and lose trust.

“Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city” – Proverbs 16:32 (NIV)”.
