Alan’s Resignation Would Damage NPP Fortunes In 2024 Elections- Musa Danquah

The Executive Director of Global Info Analytics, Musa Danquah has indicated that the decision by Alan Kyerematen to run as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections will affect the fortunes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the 2024 General Elections.

Mr. Musa Danquah stated that Mr. Alan Kyerematen contesting as an independent candidate can win about 10 to 13 percent of the national votes.

He noted that Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, from all surveys conducted by Global Info Analytics, performs better against John Dramani Mahama on the national level because he appeals to people who would not have voted for the New Patriotic Party.

According to the Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics Mr Kyerematen as an independent candidate is likely to win 20 per cent of the New Patriotic Party supporters and that can translate to about 10 to 13 per cent of the national figures.

He therefore believes the figure is enough to cause damage to the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 election and will severely undermine the chances of the New Patriotic Party in breaking the eight

“Data we have seen over the years show Alan appears to do well against Mahama on the national level because he can appeal to people who wouldn’t otherwise vote for the NPP.

“He also does well in the Akan constituencies than Bawumia on the ticket of the NPP. Alan is likely to win about 20 percent of NPP supporters as an independent candidate and that will be a disaster for the NPP. That figure can give Alan 10 to 13 per cent on the national level and if you take that figure from a national election, there is trouble”.

Alan Would Make Impact As An Independent Candidate

Mr. Musah Danquah further indicated that if Mr Alan Kyerematen had contested on the ticket of a political party, the margin would not have been too huge as compared to his running as an independent candidate.

“Alan Kyerematen running as a president on the ticket of a political party would have an effect but would not be so huge because people will see that party as an option for the NPP. Alan going independent will affect the NPP, he would now be seen as putting Ghana’s interest first as an independent candidate and that is where he could cause the most damage to the NPP”.

Meanwhile, Professor Gyampo, a Political Science Lecturer at the University of Ghana has admonished the New Patriotic Party as a political party to close its ranks and ensure that even the November 4 election would be held in a manner that will not bring more division in the party.

He believes failure on the part of the party leadership to act with caution would lead to another breakaway from the party after the November 4 National Delegate Election.

The former flagbearer aspirant for New Patriotic Party presidential primaries, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen resigned from the New Patriotic Party on Monday, September 25, 2023, and announced a four-point agenda for his bid to contest the 2024 General Elections as an independent presidential candidate.

Announcing his bid for the presidency on Monday, September 25, 2023, Mr Kyerematen, the former Trades and Industry Minister said to actualize his goal as an independent presidential candidate he will establish and lead a new MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE in Ghana.

Polls published by Global InfoAnalytics on September 20 2023 indicated that 55% of the delegates contacted believe Mr. Alan Kyeremanten’s withdrawal would affect the party’s chances in the December 7 2024 General Elections while 37% believe Mr. Alan Kyeremanten’s withdrawal would not affect the Party’s chances in the December 7 2024 General Election.

The New Patriotic Party is expected to hold its National Delegates Conference on November 4 to elect its flagbearer for the 2024 General Elections.
