Honorable Kwaku Kwarteng

The Member of Parliament for Obuasi West, Honorable Kwaku Kwarteng, has issued a statement clarifying his decision to decline ministerial appointment from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo during his recent reshuffling to his government.

The Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament in a statement to respond to recent media reports suggesting that he turned down an invitation to serve in President Akufo-Addo’s executive, expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for the opportunities presented to him.

The Honorable Kwaku Kwarteng stated with humility his profound appreciation to President Akufo-Addo’s trust in him and further thanked him for the opportunity to serve as the Deputy Minister for Finance from 2017 to 2021.

However, the former Deputy Minister of Finance under the first term of the New Patriotic Party administration led by President Akufo-Addo clarified that he declined the ministerial appointment due to some specific and genuine reasons.

“Following media reports that I have declined an invitation to serve in the Executive arm of government, I find it necessary to clarify these publications as follows”

Honorable Kwaku Kwarteng, MP Obuasi West

The Honorable Kwaku Kwarteng emphasized the critical role of Parliament, especially in matters related to finance and the economy, stating that he believes he can better support the work of the New Patriotic Party administration by working from a parliamentary position.

2024 General Elections And NPP’s Message And Governance Strategies

Furthermore, the Obuasi West Member of Parliament disclosed his intention to play a special role in crafting the message and governance strategies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leading up to the 2024 general elections.

The Honorable Kwaku Kwarteng strongly asserted that being a non-ministerial Member of Parliament would allow and offer him the best opportunity and time to focus on such aspects of his political responsibilities.

Moreover, the Chairman of the Finance Committee of Parliament, Honorable Kwaku Kwarteng reiterated his gratitude to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for given him the opportunity to serve in his government and further pledged his unwavering support for the President’s vision.

The Honorable Kwaku Kwarteng also assured President Akufo-Addo and the New Patriotic Party of his unalloyed commitment to support the party and government in whatever ways he can, to ultimately contribute to the New Patriotic Party’s success in the December 7 2024 upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Sagnarigu Constituency in the Northern Region, Honorable ABA Fuseini argued that the recent reshuffle made by President Akufo-Addo is a move to resource sitting Members of Parliament (MPs) who won their parliamentary primaries.

The veteran politician and Ranking Member of Parliament’s Committee on Communications also described President Akufo-Addo’s reshuffle as deliberate ploy to deceive Ghanaians for their votes in the 2024 general election.

“This reshuffle that they have done is a political event President Nana Akufo-Addo has done. Go and do an analysis of the appointees, especially the deputy ministers. Number one, he has removed all those who lost elections, go and check. Any minister or deputy minister who lost his election has been removed.

“All Members of Parliament who have voluntarily indicated that they are not coming back to Parliament, he has removed them. So it’s an election gimmick to ensure that resources should be available to those he is putting in place as ministers to be able to campaign for the 2024 election”.

ABA Fuseini, MP Sagnarigu Constituency

The opposition National democratic Congress lawmaker further chastised President Akufo-Addo for failing to adhere to the various concerns from a large section of Ghanaians including members of his own party to make changes to his government earlier.

The Honorable Alhaij Fuseini strongly stated that an early reshuffle by President Akufo-Addo to his government would have had positive and better impact on the country’s economy than his last-minute move.
