Akufo-Addo Inaugurates Phase 2 of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange

H.E Akufo Addo Dankwa President of the Republic of Ghana

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has inaugurated Phase 2 of the Obetsebi Lamptey Interchange in Accra, marking a significant milestone in the government’s ongoing infrastructure development agenda.

This landmark project exemplifies the administration’s commitment to transformative development, economic growth, and improved quality of life for Ghanaians.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, President Akufo-Addo expressed his satisfaction with the project’s completion, noting its importance for the Greater Accra Region and the nation.

“The completion of Phase 2 is not just an infrastructure milestone; it is a pivotal moment in our nation’s journey towards modernity and efficiency.”

The President highlighted the project’s impact on reducing traffic congestion and improving mobility within the capital city.

“This interchange will significantly enhance the flow of traffic to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital as well as along the Ring Road West, Kaneshie, and Accra Central corridors. By reducing travel times and vehicle operating costs, will increase productivity for businesses and transform the daily commute for thousands of Ghanaians.

Moreover, this project is a catalyst for economic vibrancy in the capital. It would facilitate the seamless movement of goods and services thereby reducing the cost of doing business and attracting muchly investments to the region. It is indeed a cornerstone of our broader vision to establish an integrated modern, transportation network that underpins Ghana’s socioeconomic transformation.”

Commitment to Sustainability and Safety

Also, he highlighted the inclusive design features of the interchange. He categorically stated;

“The benefits of this interchange extend far beyond traffic management. It embodies the commitment to sustainability and safety, in cooperating pedestrian-friendly design and modern drainage to mitigate perennial flooding. In excess, it exemplifies our vision of a resilient and inclusive urban landscape.’’

President Akufo-Addo used the occasion to highlight other infrastructure achievements under his administration.

He cited the completion of the Pokuase Interchange, the largest in West Africa, and the Tamale Interchange, the first in Northern Ghana among others.

Additionally, he noted that six interchanges have been completed nationwide, with 13 others currently underway. He commended;

“These accomplishments are the result of a collective effort- to build a Ghana where opportunity is available to all, regardless of geography.”

The President expressed gratitude to all who remain committed to this vision. He Commended;

“I extend my deepest gratitude to the Ministry of Roads and Highways under its dynamic minister, the Honorable Francis Asenso-Boakye, member of parliament for Bantama- the new National Roads Authority and the contractors and engineers whose dedication and expertise have brought this project to fruition. Your contributions to nation-building cannot be overstated.’’

Moreover, the President acknowledges financial partners whose steadfast support even amid global economic challenges, and the debt exchange program has been indispensable.

The President used the platform to appeal to Ghanaians to support the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the upcoming elections.

“The upcoming elections represent a defining moment for our nation. To sustain the progress, we have made and bring ongoing projects to completion, I urge you to place your confidence in the NPP. A vote for the outstanding Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP parliamentary candidate Ablekuma Central – [is a] vote for continuity, growth, and a brighter future for our beloved nation.”

As he inaugurated the state-of-the-art facility, he further cautioned;

“I urge all motorists to exercise caution, adhere to road safety regulations, and uphold the principles of responsible driving to ensure the safety of all road users.”

In closing, the President paid homage to Emmanuel Obetsebi-Lamptey. He eulogized; “By continuing to name this interchange after him, Obetsebi-Lamptey is worthy of the honor.”

This commissioning is a testament to the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and its broader vision for a resilient and modern Ghana.

The President reiterated his administration’s determination to continue delivering projects that elevate living standards and foster national growth.
