President John Dramani Mahama has extended a compelling invitation to Czech businesses to invest in Ghana’s priority sectors, leveraging their technological and industrial prowess to support Ghana’s transformation agenda.

Speaking at the Czech Business Delegation during the second day of President Petr Pavel’s official state visit to the country, President Mahama highlighted Ghana’s readiness to collaborate on mutually beneficial initiatives in “digital infrastructure, transportation, health, and manufacturing.”

“We stand ready to work with our Czech partners to create prosperity for our people,” President Mahama declared, pointing to the urgent need for international partnerships to fast-track Ghana’s economic progress.

The President noted that Ghana’s transformation hinges on strategic partnerships that elevate sectors critical to inclusive growth.

As the host country of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, “Ghana is aggressively pursuing infrastructure development to enhance its trade capacity.”

President Mahama outlined the ten-billion-dollar ‘Big Push programme,’ which aims to build a comprehensive multimodal transport network that supports “intra-African trade.”

“Czech companies with specialized expertise in integrated transportation systems, including the tram and light rail systems proposed for Accra and Kumasi, can play a transformative role in this endeavour”

Healthcare and Manufacturing

Touching on healthcare, President Mahama lauded the Czech Republic’s history of innovation in medical equipment and care delivery.

He cited the Medevac program’s success in some teaching hospitals and expressed appreciation for the Czech government’s financial backing of the Kpong mini hospital, which is set to be inaugurated.

He also called for deeper collaboration in manufacturing and processing. Ghana, he said, is “focused on climbing the global value chain through the transformation of raw materials into high-value products.”

“The Czech Republic’s renowned industrial expertise and technological capabilities can be invaluable in this transformation, particularly in specialized areas such as food processing, mineral refinement, pharmaceutical production, and light manufacturing”

Enduring Collaboration

President Mahama noted that both countries are already laying the groundwork for sustained economic engagement.

Ghanaian institutions including the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Association of Ghana Industries, and the Ghanaian mission in Prague are preparing to host a trade and investment forum in Prague later this year.

“It is also hoped that the MOU on trade cooperation between our two countries will be finalized by the close of the year,” he added, expressing optimism that this will cement a stronger framework for bilateral trade.

The Czech delegation, led by President Pavel, is expected to inaugurate the Czech House exhibition later in the day. The exhibition will serve as a permanent showcase for Czech technology and economic opportunities in Ghana.

“I urge our Ghanaian business men and women to visit the Czech House to view what opportunities they can take advantage of to enhance the cooperation”

President John Dramani Mahama

As the forum concluded, the President drew from the words of renowned Czech statesman Vaclav Havel, urging both sides to embrace “the human power to reflect, in human meekness and in human responsibility.”

President Mahama said the partnerships initiated during the visit must blossom into “enduring collaborations that will stand the test of time.”
