Accra Hearts of Oak has launched a Recruitment Committee aimed at overseeing a major squad overhaul for the 2025/26 Ghana football season.

The club, which made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, is signalling its dedication to a strategic rebuild following a disappointing campaign last season.

The 21-time Ghana Premier League champions, who finished 4th in the 2024/25 season, are looking to change their approach, both on the field and technically, to compete for top honours next season.

The committee, as announced by the club, will comprise key individuals from the board, management, and technical team. Though the full list of members hasn’t been released, the club stressed that it has chosen decision-makers with a mix of administrative and tactical experience.

A data-driven recruitment strategy will be central to the club’s plans. The club emphasized that the recruitment approach will be based on data analysis, focusing on improving key areas of the team.

Current players will also see their roles evolve to match the long-term objectives of the club, with some players potentially being released if they don’t meet the performance standards.

This approach marks a notable shift from the traditional recruitment systems common among Ghanaian clubs, as Hearts of Oak aims to modernize its operations by using analytics and performance metrics in the recruitment process.

The committee has already begun a thorough review of the current squad to assess strengths and weaknesses, with this review serving as the basis for upcoming transfer decisions.

The club’s technical team, under head coach Aboubakar Ouattara, will be instrumental in guiding the process to ensure new signings fit into the club’s tactical framework.

Rebuilding the Squad

In line with the rebuild, the club has hinted at a significant shake-up in its squad. While no names have been revealed, Hearts of Oak has indicated that players who don’t meet the new performance expectations will be let go.

This is to make room for new signings who align with the club’s revamped system. Sources suggest that up to seven first-team players could be on their way out, with some nearing the end of their contracts and others deemed surplus after internal performance assessments.

Fans can expect updates in the coming weeks as negotiations and contract reviews intensify. As the club navigates this transformation, attention is also turning to the 2025 President’s Cup, scheduled for Sunday, July 6, 2025, against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko.

This prestigious match, which honours the President of Ghana, will be played at the Accra Sports Stadium. Although it’s unlikely that many new signings will feature, the game will provide an early opportunity for players to showcase their skills and fight for a place in the restructured squad.

The President’s Cup is always more than just a friendly; it’s a fiercely contested match filled with history, fan passion, and national significance. A strong performance could serve as a boost for the team and fans alike, setting the tone for Hearts’ pre-season preparations.

Fans will be watching closely, hoping this marks the start of a rejuvenated Hearts of Oak side ready to challenge for titles and restore the club’s glory.
