“It’s not the type of song you just want to trend. It is that song that you want, that evergreen thing back again. You want longevity, so it needs to be people who understand music, like Okyeame Kwame. It has to be there.”

The anniversary celebration also includes a world tour, with performances across Africa, Europe, North America, and Australia. The concerts, set to begin in August 2025, will be held in more intimate settings to allow the highlife star to connect more closely with his audience.

Confirmed tour dates are: 24th August – London, UK, 6th September – Bremen, Germany, 27th September – Accra, Ghana, 4th October – Takoradi, Ghana, 12th October – Washington D.C., USA, and 22nd November – Sydney, Australia.

Additional shows in Kumasi and Amsterdam are in the works, with dates to be announced soon.

The ‘Asor’ anniversary project is expected to highlight Kwabena Kwabena’s enduring influence in Ghanaian music, celebrating not only his past work but also his ongoing contribution to highlife and live performance.

Ghanaian highlife icon Kwabena Kwabena officially unveiled plans to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his breakthrough hit single ‘Asor’ through a global celebration titled ‘Asor @ 20’.

The anniversary campaign will include a worldwide tour, the release of a modern remix of the classic track, and several engaging events to honour his two-decade-long musical journey.

The anniversary was launched at a vibrant event at Corks Lounge in Osu, Accra. Hosted by seasoned broadcaster Andy Dosty, the event drew music industry leaders, celebrities, and media figures.

Among the high-profile attendees were music producer Fredyma, fashion icon and media mogul KOD, musician Epixode, Praye Tiatia, Silva Lady, Haglah, Papa Bills, and Lexis Bill.

The atmosphere was a blend of nostalgia and excitement as the music community came together to celebrate one of Ghana’s most cherished voices.

Kwabena Kwabena took to the stage with a brief but heartfelt performance, reminding fans of his enduring vocal talent. He was later joined by Epixode and Praye Tiatia for surprise performances that delighted the crowd.

Originally released in 2004, ‘Asor’ was a standout track from Kwabena Kwabena’s debut album. Alongside hits like ‘Ka Kyere Me’ and ‘Trodom’, the song introduced a fresh sound to Ghanaian highlife music and quickly gained massive popularity.

It remains one of his most recognisable works, with its themes of love and emotional vulnerability resonating deeply with audiences across generations.

Speaking at the launch, the singer expressed profound gratitude for the song’s longevity and the support it continues to receive. “To see Aso still loved and performed 20 years later is deeply humbling,” he said.

“It’s a reminder that music truly lives beyond the moment it was created. I’m thankful for everyone who has walked this journey with me.”
