Fans of the popular American sitcom, ‘Friends’ are a bit concerned about the health of Matthew Perry, who plays Chandler, after he appeared to slur his words in the trailer for the upcoming HBO Max unscripted reunion.
WarnerMedia released the first official full-length trailer of the highly anticipated reunion special, which had its premiere date postponed for months due to the pandemic. However, fans have been paying particularly close attention to Matthew Perry after he seemed to be in a bit of distress in both the trailer and the interview.
Many also noticed that Perry appeared to be distant and slurring his words during the interview ahead of the reunion’s premiere on May 27. According to some fans, he seemed to be staring off into space.
It is worth mentioning that Perry has been open in the past about his struggles with addiction. He has had to go to rehab a handful of times in order to kick substance abuse. While speculation is running rampant after he re-emerged in the;public eye as a result of the reunion, he hasn’t publicly revealed any kind of;relapse or renewed struggle with his soberness.
Fans in a state of frenzy over James Corden hosting the show
Meanwhile, news that ‘The Late Late Show’ host, James Corden will;be hosting the ‘Friends’ special on HBO later this month has many fans of the show on social media displeased. According to them, Corden has no known connection to the popular sitcom.
Fans pointed out that there are so many other notable celebrities;who had roles on the show and would have made way more sense to host the show. That notwithstanding, some of the criticism is also coming from people who seem to simply dislike James for other reasons.
While selecting Corden as a host of the show may seem odd to many given that he appears as part of CBS’s late-night lineup, and ‘Friends’ is synonymous with NBC, there may be a very simple explanation as to why he was tapped to perform some hosting duties during the special.
According to some reports, ‘Friends: The Reunion’, is produced by ‘Fulwell 73’, the production company behind ‘The Late Late Show’. That may explain why they turned to the Emmy and Tony-winner to host a discussion with the cast.
Nonetheless, the trailer featured the entire cast of the beloved 1990s sitcom, Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, reuniting for the first time since the show ended in 2004.
While the reunion promises many segments in which the cast can reminisce, the trailer showed a live panel discussion that is moderated by James Corden. Corden’s voice can be heard asking the cast some questions about the show and he’s seen briefly in the trailer as well.
