Tamale Teaching Hospital has enhanced its infection prevention and patient safety systems following the commissioning of a modern industrial laundry facility supplied by HealthTech Ghana Limited.
The newly installed laundry system is expected to improve the processing of hospital linen, support higher hygiene standards across patient care areas, and strengthen the hospital’s operational efficiency as demand for healthcare services continues to rise in Northern Ghana.
According to HealthTech Ghana Limited, the installation forms part of broader efforts to improve healthcare support infrastructure and ensure that hospitals are equipped with the essential systems required to deliver quality patient care.
The company stated that the new equipment would significantly improve the processing of hospital linen while helping to maintain the strict hygiene standards required within a tertiary healthcare environment.
Improving Hygiene and Patient Safety
Hospital management, which led the commissioning ceremony, described effective laundry management as a critical component of infection prevention and control.

Officials noted that the availability of clean and properly processed linen contributes directly to safer healthcare environments for both patients and healthcare workers.
“We have long identified effective laundry management as a key component of infection prevention and control in this hospital. Clean and adequately processed linen reduces the risk of cross contamination and supports safer environments for both patients and healthcare workers”.
Management Tamale Teaching Hospital
The investment is expected to enhance the hospital’s ability to maintain a consistent supply of hygienic linen for use across its various departments while reducing delays associated with linen processing.
Advanced Equipment Installed
HealthTech Ghana Limited disclosed that the newly commissioned facility comprises a range of industrial grade equipment designed to meet the demands of one of Ghana’s busiest referral hospitals.
According to the company, the installation includes two Tolkar Hydra 60 kilogram industrial washing machines and two Tolkar Hydra 30 kilogram industrial washing machines intended for high volume linen cleaning.
The system also features two Tolkar Vela 550 by 2000 flatwork ironers equipped with electric heating, alongside two universal pressing irons used for drying, ironing, and finishing hospital linen.

Speaking during the commissioning, HealthTech Ghana Limited explained that the equipment had been selected to improve efficiency while ensuring that hospital linen is processed to the highest standards.
“The equipment will help TTH maintain consistent hygiene standards while supporting the daily demands of a busy tertiary healthcare institution as reliable healthcare infrastructure remains critical to improving patient outcomes and strengthening hospital operations”.
Management Tamale Teaching Hospital
HealthTech Ghana added that the installation represents another important step toward improving service quality at Tamale Teaching Hospital.
Supporting a Major Referral Hospital
Tamale Teaching Hospital serves as one of Ghana’s largest referral and teaching health institutions, providing specialised healthcare services to millions of people across the northern sector of the country.
The hospital caters for patients from the Northern, North East, Savannah, Upper East, and Upper West regions. It also receives referrals from neighbouring countries within the sub region.
With a bed capacity exceeding 800 and thousands of patients seeking treatment annually, maintaining efficient support systems has become increasingly important to sustaining quality healthcare delivery.

The commissioning of the industrial laundry facility is therefore expected to strengthen the hospital’s operational capacity and improve patient experiences.
Health experts have consistently emphasised that support services such as laundry management play an indispensable role in healthcare delivery, particularly in preventing healthcare associated infections.
Building on Recent Improvements
The latest investment forms part of a series of infrastructure and service improvements undertaken at Tamale Teaching Hospital in recent years.
These initiatives have included the expansion of clinical services, the commissioning of new medical facilities, and ongoing projects aimed at improving healthcare delivery throughout Northern Ghana.
Historically, laundry services have remained an essential aspect of hospital operations. Previous phases of redevelopment and expansion at the facility incorporated laundry infrastructure as part of broader efforts to enhance patient care and operational effectiveness.

Hospital authorities observed that investments in both clinical and non clinical infrastructure are necessary to meet growing healthcare demands.
The installation of the modern laundry system is therefore viewed as a strategic intervention designed to complement ongoing improvements in clinical service delivery.
Meeting Growing Healthcare Demands
As the demand for specialised medical services continues to increase across the northern regions, healthcare institutions are being encouraged to strengthen every aspect of their operations.
Reliable support systems such as linen management contribute significantly to patient comfort, staff safety, and overall healthcare quality.
HealthTech Ghana Limited noted that the equipment has been specifically designed to improve the efficiency of linen processing, ensure the continuous availability of clean linen, and promote higher hygiene standards throughout the hospital.

The company stressed that investments in healthcare infrastructure must extend beyond clinical equipment to include the systems that sustain day to day hospital operations.
For Tamale Teaching Hospital, the commissioning of the new industrial laundry facility marks another milestone in its efforts to provide efficient, safe, and patient-centred care.
As the institution continues to evolve in response to increasing patient numbers and expanding service demands, the integration of modern support infrastructure is expected to play a vital role in strengthening healthcare delivery across Northern Ghana.
