Vision FC opened the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season in style, cruising to a 3-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Nii Adjei Okraku Sports Complex in Tema on Saturday thanks to a brace from Setsofia Aqetey.
The Tema-based club needed just four minutes to announce their intentions, with Naziru Alhassan Nyenye putting Vision ahead with an early strike, the first goal of the new GPL season.
The quick opener settled the hosts and put Young Apostles under immediate pressure as Vision looked to build on their strong start.
Young Apostles managed to keep the deficit at one for much of the opening half, but Vision eventually found a way through again five minutes before the break.
Setsofia Aqetey doubled the advantage in the 40th minute, giving Vision a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the interval.
Aqetey then completed his brace in the 68th minute when his free kick took a big deflection before finding the back of the net, effectively ending any hopes of a Young Apostles comeback.
The third goal capped a dominant display from Vision, who controlled the game after taking command and comfortably saw out the remainder of the contest.
For Young Apostles, the defeat represents a disappointing beginning to a campaign in which they will be looking to improve on their previous performances in the top flight.
Vision Finally Get Their Opening-Day Win
Saturday’s result was particularly significant for Vision FC because it preserved their unbeaten record in their first league matches of the season while also delivering their first opening-day victory in their GPL history.
The win also shifts the balance in the head-to-head rivalry between the two clubs since they both joined the Ghana Premier League in the 2024/25 season.
After five meetings in the top-flight, Vision FC now have two victories against Young Apostles, while the latter have one win. The other two meetings between the clubs have ended in draws.
Beyond the three points, Vision will be encouraged by the manner of the victory, particularly their efficiency in front of goal and their ability to turn an early advantage into a convincing result.
Aqetey’s brace will also provide a significant boost to Vision’s attacking ambitions, with the midfielder emerging as the decisive figure on the opening day.
The result gives Vision an early platform to build on as the 2026/27 campaign gathers momentum.
The rest of the opening weekend’s fixtures are scheduled for Sunday, when the other Premier League clubs begin their campaigns.
Medeama SC’s fixture is the exception, with the Tarkwa club’s involvement in the CAF Champions League preliminary qualifying round requiring its league schedule to be adjusted.
For Vision FC, however, the season could hardly have started better, with three goals, a clean sheet and three points providing an ideal foundation for the campaign ahead.
