Singer, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2baba, has reacted to the demise of his colleague and close friend, Sound Sultan, who died after a long battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma on July 11.
2baba in a post shared on his Instagram page expressed his sadness over the death of Sound Sultan. He described Sound Sultan as his friend and brother. He also promised to ensure that the family of the late singer will be safe and good. 2baba wrote: “Couldn’t bring myself to do this but what can we do.
“Rest well, till we meet again my dear friend and brother. Still so unreal. Will never stop celebrating you. I promise you, your family will be safe and good. #GRATEFUL;for you and the blessings that you represented in my life”.
Friends and fans of 2baba took to his comment section to pacify him on the loss of his dear friend.
Other people mourn Sound Sultan
That notwithstanding, President Muhammadu Buhari extended his condolences to the Fasasi family on the death of the renowned singer.
The President noted that Sound Sultan’s demise is not only a loss to the Nigerian music industry, but to the country as a whole.
“As a celebrated rapper, singer, songwriter, actor, he lived an exemplary life, achieved several milestones in his career, and contributed greatly to the development of the Nigerian music and entertainment industry through his artistic genius, creativity, and talent, which has inspired many young Nigerians in the industry”.
Nonetheless, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, also extended his heartfelt condolences to the Fasasi family and especially the Nigerian entertainment industry on the passage of Sound Sultan.
Governor mourns Sound Sultan
The Governor urged the deceased family, friends, associates, fans, and the entertainment practitioners to take the death of Sound Sultan as an act of God.
“Sound Sultan’s death is painful. He was a bundle of talents, who used his God-given gift to advance the course of mankind. His music, artistry, and interest in sports were all donated at every point for the development of humanity”.
Also, several other celebrities have eulogized the deceased rapper. Popular TV host, Teju ‘Babyface’ Oyelakin just like many others took to social media to write a heartfelt message about Sound Sultan.
Babyface disclosed that a constant thing Sound Sultan did for everyone was to “show up for them”. According to the TV host, during the times when comedy shows had no money to pay artists, the late singer showed up for them to support their shows without collecting a dime.
The announcement of Sound Sultan’s death was made on Sunday morning by his family in a statement that read:
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of multitalented veteran singer, rapper, songwriter Olanrewaju Fasasi aka Sound sultan. He passed away at the age of 44 following a hard-fought battle with Angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma. He is survived by his wife, three children, and his siblings. We, his family will appreciate the utmost privacy as we come to grips with the tragic loss.”
He was buried in New Jersey, U.S. on Sunday (the same day he died) according to Muslim rites.
