Aduana FC secured a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Asante Kotoko at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday, ending a five-year wait for an away league win against the Porcupine Warriors.
The Ogya Boys produced a disciplined performance despite playing the entire of the second half with 10 men, holding off sustained pressure from the home side to claim all three points.
Aduana’s previous league victory over Kotoko away from home came in 2021, but that long wait finally came to an end as Samuel Boadu’s side demonstrated impressive resilience in Kumasi.
The visitors made a dream start in the fifth minute after Stephen Amankona capitalised on a costly mistake from Kotoko goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim.
Danlad attempted to dribble out from the back but was dispossessed by Amankona, who nicked the ball off the goalkeeper’s foot before calmly rolling it into an empty net.
The goal carried added significance for Amankona, a former Kotoko striker, as he punished his former club for attempting to play out from the back and gave Aduana an early advantage.
Eric Tinkler’s side struggled to create clear openings as Aduana remained compact and organised, frustrating the hosts and protecting their lead as the first half progressed.
Aduana Dig Deep After Red Card
Kotoko’s hopes of finding a way back into the contest appeared to receive a major boost shortly before half-time when Aduana midfielder Raymond Agyemang was sent off after receiving a second yellow card.
The dismissal left Aduana with 10 men for the entire second half, but rather than surrendering their advantage, Boadu’s men responded with greater defensive discipline.
Kotoko dominated possession and pushed players forward in search of an equaliser, but the Aduana defence remained resolute and repeatedly dealt with the pressure.
The Porcupine Warriors struggled to make their numerical advantage count, with Aduana maintaining their shape and limiting Kotoko’s opportunities in the final third.
As Kotoko committed more bodies forward, spaces began to emerge for Aduana to exploit on the counter-attack.
The visitors eventually delivered the decisive blow through Seidu Saana in stoppage time, who raced through on goal after being released behind the Kotoko defence.
Danlad rushed off his line in an attempt to prevent the second goal, but Saana showed composure to get beyond the advancing goalkeeper before sliding his effort through the legs of a recovering defender and into the net.
The goal effectively sealed Aduana’s victory and came as the final significant action of the match.
Referee Maxwell Hanson brought proceedings to an end almost immediately after Kotoko restarted the game, confirming a major away triumph for the visitors.
The defeat was Kotoko’s first of the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season after four matches, while Aduana recorded their second consecutive victory following a difficult opening to their campaign.
For Boadu and his players, the result represents a significant statement of character, particularly given the circumstances of playing more than 45 minutes with 10 men against one of the league’s most established sides.
Kotoko, meanwhile, will have to regroup quickly as they prepare for another home fixture against Karela United in their next league assignment on Thursday.
Aduana will take confidence from a result that not only extends their winning run but also brings an end to a five-year wait for a league victory over Kotoko away from home.
