The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has ruled out any plans to change its parliamentary Minority leadership, with General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua dismissing reports of a possible shake-up as false.
Speaking at a press conference at the party’s headquarters at Asylum Down on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Mr Kodua stated the party had neither held a meeting nor considered any proposal to replace the current leadership led by Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
“There is a rumour going around that the party may want to change the leadership in parliament. Let me state it categorically, the party has never had any meeting. The party has never thought about even deliberating to change the leadership in parliament”.
General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua
Mr Kodua maintained that the party was satisfied with the performance of the Minority Caucus and would continue to support its leadership, warning that attempts to create confusion within its ranks would not succeed.
NPP Dismisses Reports of Leadership Changes
The NPP General Secretary emphasized that no discussions had taken place within the party regarding a possible restructuring of its parliamentary leadership.
He rejected suggestions that the party was preparing to replace Hon Afenyo-Markin and his team, insisting that the current leadership continued to enjoy the confidence of the national party executives.

According to Mr Kodua, the reports were creating unnecessary speculation about the relationship between the party’s national leadership and its Minority Caucus in Parliament.
He accused those circulating the rumours of attempting to create confusion within the parliamentary group but expressed confidence that such efforts would not undermine the party’s leadership structure.
“So those who are busily peddling lies and trying to create discourse or confusion among the leadership in Parliament and the mighty minority caucus, they will not succeed”.
General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua
His remarks amount to a public reaffirmation of the party’s position that the current parliamentary leadership remains in place, with no change under consideration.
Kodua Expresses Confidence in Afenyo-Markin
Mr Kodua said the party’s national leadership was satisfied with the work being done by the Minority Caucus under Hon Afenyo-Markin. He specifically expressed confidence in the Minority Leader’s performance and pledged continued institutional support for the parliamentary team.
“The leadership of our party, especially we, the electoral officers, chaired by Chairman John Boadu, are very happy. We are overwhelmingly satisfied with the work being done by the leadership in Parliament led by Osahen Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin”.
General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua
The General Secretary added that the party would continue to provide the support necessary for the Minority Caucus to carry out its responsibilities in Parliament.

The statement comes weeks after the NPP elected John Boadu as National Chairman at its national delegates conference in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, while Justin Kodua retained his position as General Secretary. The new national executive leadership is expected to oversee the party’s organisation and preparations ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Current NPP Minority Leadership Structure
The party’s current parliamentary leadership is headed by Hon Afenyo-Markin, the Member of Parliament for Effutu, with Patricia Appiagyei serving as Deputy Minority Leader.
The leadership structure also includes Frank Annoh-Dompreh as Minority Chief Whip, Habib Iddrisu as First Deputy Minority Whip and Davies Opoku as Second Deputy Minority Whip.
The NPP formally notified Parliament of its selected Minority leadership for the Ninth Parliament in January 2025. Mr Kodua’s latest comments reinforce the party’s stated support for the existing team and dismiss the prospect of an immediate leadership reshuffle.
NPP Leadership Focuses on Party Unity
Mr Kodua urged the public to disregard claims suggesting that the party intended to change its parliamentary leadership, reiterating that no meeting had been held and no attempt had been made to initiate such a process.

“There is no meeting, there is no attempt to change the leadership in Parliament”. The remarks place the NPP’s position on the issue beyond speculation, at least for now, while signalling continued backing for Hon Afenyo-Markin and the Minority Caucus.
The party’s challenge will be to maintain cohesion between its national executives and parliamentary wing as it prepares for the next general election. For now, Justin Kodua has made clear that the NPP intends to retain its current parliamentary leadership and support the team in carrying out its work in Parliament.
