The Western Regional Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Charles Bissue, has intimated that the alleged kidnapped pregnant woman in Takoradi has the right to be examined independently. He said the examination will help ascertain the facts of her claims.
According to Mr. Bissue, it is not right for anyone to polarize the system by creating fear and panic in the country and implored the public to leave the Police to conduct the investigation into the alleged kidnapping in Takoradi.
“The lady has a right, even though she is a victim, she has a right. She has the right for an independent examination. So all these avenues are there to explore. Let’s rely on the Police when they come out because when the Police are wrong, we attack them. So, I sit here and plead with them to beef up security in the Western Region, that is how we build a nation.”

Mr. Bissue made these comments on the back of the statement by the Western Regional Police Command on the alleged kidnapping of Josephine Panyin Mensah, who was named a suspect in her alleged abduction. However, the Police are also facing claims of covering up a possible kidnapping crime in the region.
Police not covering up kidnap
Mr. Bissue touching on claims by opinion leaders that the Police are also complicit by naming the victim as a suspect, said the leaders must be wary not to mislead the public. He said that he cannot ascertain whether the regional minister was premature with his statement on the kidnap but rather made his judgements based on the information fed him by the NIB.
“I believe he relied on the NIB for the information he came out with. So, I am not in a position to say if it was premature or not. It is apparent to everyone in the country when the three girls were kidnapped in Takoradi and no report was coming out, the Police were lampooned by the public. But today, the Police have released a statement on the alleged kidnapping of a supposed pregnant woman who was freed without her baby.”

Allow security agencies to work
Mr. Bissue intimated the state agencies such as the National Investigation Bureau (NIB), the Police and the hospital in question have been consistent in addressing the public on the alleged kidnapping of Josephine Panyin Mensah and should be allowed to do their jobs. He then pleaded with the pubic to believe in the country’s security institutions.
“We should remain calm and let the Police do their job. For all you know there might be kidnappers still in Takoradi;and they might think we do not know what they are doing. I am appealing to the Police that western is a cash cow of the country. This oil boom and natural resources come with its own vices and all that. I believe that we should spend more on our security in the region, it will go a long way.”

Mr. Bissue then pointed out that he sympathizes with the victim and her family if the alleged kidnapping turns out to be true because she has rights to her independence. However, he revealed that if she is complicit in the alleged kidnapping then she needs to be punished.
