Former President John Dramani Mahama, has disclosed that he is confident of winning the 2024 December elections on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He noted that the party has gathered enough experience from the 2020 elections which will inform their approach to the next elections.
Speaking to his supporters in the Western Region on Thursday October 14, 2021, as part of his ‘Thank you tour’, Mr Mahama iterated his controversial statement, “so, when I said do or die, I meant we will work hard”.
“I strongly believe that God will give us victory in the next elections… NDC will win the 2024 elections with revived energy and lesson learned from the 2020 elections”.
Mr Mahama encouraged members of the party to participate in the upcoming internal elections to elect executives ahead of the next general elections.
“This is a party that believes in rule of law and is law abiding and so when the time comes and you feel qualified, you can partake in the exercise”.

Touching on the current economic situation, Mr Mahama indicated that times are hard for Ghanaians under the Akufo-Addo administration, citing the increase in food prices and other commodities. Fuel costs, according to him are “rising [and] every day the pump prices go up”.
“This year many unions are unhappy with the negotiations that took place where a paltry 4 per cent was given to them when those of Article 71 office holders have been given wider increment. Even though you do free SHS, you have no jobs for them to do when they come out. Times are hard and people [are] suffering, food prices are going up [and] every day the prices are increasing”.

Eastern Regional Chairman pledges allegiance to Mahama
Meanwhile, the Eastern Regional Chairman of the NDC, John Amankrah, has revealed that he will resign if former President John Dramani Mahama does not contest as flagbearer of the party.
Speaking at a meeting with party faithful during former President Mahama’s ‘Thank You Tour’, Mr Amankrah explained that recent news about him supporting Dr Kwabena Duffour’s alleged bid to lead the party is farfetched.
“Recently a picture was in circulation that myself, Yaw Gyan, Captain Buta and a host of others are behind Dr Duffuor’s alleged bid. Truth is, I have known Dr Duffour for a very long time but he has not mentioned any such intentions to me. Such lies must stop”.

The Eastern Regional Chairman noted that it has become convenient for people to tag their opponents as anti-Mahama. With this, Mr Amankrah questioned what the perpetrators of such acts sought to achieve with their assumptions.
“What is the meaning of anti-Mahama? All that I am doing as a Regional Chairman is because of President Mahama. I will not support anyone who contests him because he’s like a brother to me. If he decides not to contest, I will resign immediately. I will not support anyone against President Mahama. I will never do that. We must stop these divisive tactics and remain united, if not, 2024 will only be a dream”.
