The National Police is carrying out investigations after the house of Real Madrid’s striker, Karim Benzema, was broken into and robbed while the footballer was participating in the League match against Elche, at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.
According to reports, the robbery occurred at the player’s home located in the Madrid municipality of San Sebastián de Los Reyes.
The first police investigations indicated that the thieves jumped the fences from the outer perimeter of the house, from the back, and entered the garden through the pool. While inside the compound, they broke the blinds and a window with hammers to enter the house, according to the police report.
Reports indicated that the National Police received notice of the robbery when the owners arrived at the home and found everything in a mess. They activated the robbery button from the alarm center and left the house in case there was a thief left inside.
Several patrols of Citizen Security, Judicial Police, and Scientific Police later moved to the place. Researchers analyzed traces of blood that were found inside the house which could belong to some of the robbers who were injured with the crystals, some sources indicated.
At the moment, the value of the items stolen from the French footballer is unknown. It’s not the first time that Benzema has been targeted by thieves during a match.
In February 2019, Benzema’s house was raided as Real Madrid lost 3-0 to rivals Barcelona in their Copa del Rey semi-final second leg clash.
This current robbery at the striker’s house adds to the bad experience he suffered on Sunday after missing his first penalty as a Real Madrid player, before getting injured in the 58th minute. He would now miss Thursday’s Copa del Rey quarter-final tie against Athletic Bilbao.
Benzema will undergo medical tests on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, to determine whether he will be fit enough to feature or whether he is set for a spell on the sidelines.
Real Madrid is sitting at the top of LaLiga this season. In 28 games in all competitions, Benzema has chipped in 24 goals and nine assists, with 17 of his strikes coming in the Spanish top-flight.
Footballers, Targets of Burglars
Meanwhile, reports of burglaries of footballers’ homes have become rampant, as was recently the case, among many other examples, with Marcos Rojo of Boca Juniors, and Jonathan Ikone of Lille.
In the case of Marcos, the police arrested his housemaid after watches, jewelry, cash, and other valuables were stolen. The former Manchester United player who now plays for Boca discovered the burglary when he returned to his home after watching his team play against Chilean side Colo-Colo.
According to local reports, his wife, Eugenia Lusardo, told detectives their female employee had spent much of her time cleaning in the area where most of the valuables were taken.
For Jonathan Ikone, he was robbed off €250,000 worth of objects. The incident, to which police were alerted by the video surveillance company, saw the perpetrator mainly take off with luxury watches after going around the house.
