Ghanaian rapper, Yaa Pono, has revealed that he was very disappointed after realizing persons who constituted the Board Members of Ghana’s most popular music award scheme, Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Yaa Pono speaking in an interview, chided VGMA saying most of them do not qualify to be part with the exception of Hammer of the Last Two, and broadcaster, Andy Dosty.
“Previously I didn’t have the chance of seeing the Board Members of VGMA. When I saw the composition, I ran away immediately,” Yaa Pono said.
According to Yaa Pono, he can teach the Board how to properly handle affairs apart from Andy Dosty who he respects so much, and Hammer of the Last Two.
“For Andy, I know him to be one who gives room for everybody and hammer of the Last Two,” Yaa Pono remarked.
Speaking on other things he is disappointed about, Yaa Pono expressed regrets about replying to self-acclaimed Dancehall King, Shatta Wale, in a diss song titled ‘Gbe Nabu’.
It can be recalled that Yaa Pono and Shatta Wale a few years ago engaged in a hot musical banter where Shatta first recorded a song hurling insults at the rapper and abused him verbally on live social media streams.
Yaa Pono who could no longer take such punches quickly rushed to the studio and also recorded his diss song ‘Gbee Naabu’ for the Dancehall King. His reply received massive acclamation from his fans and the public for making the diss song so swift and hard on Shatta that he couldn’t retaliate.
Four years down the line, Yaa Pono says he regrets recording a diss song against Shatta Wale describing the behavior of his former friend as “foolish”, hence he shouldn’t have followed him on that path.
“I regret replying Shatta Wale’s diss song. I wish I didn’t follow a fool,” Yaa Pono said. “That is why I’m saying I’m also a fool. I regret doing it but I enjoyed it”.
Yaa Pono Releases ‘Fa Adwen’
Yaa Pono has actually been missing in action for a while but the rapper is now back to the music scene with a new song, ‘Fa Adwen’.
‘Fa Adwen’ is expected to push the Uptown Energy Records signee back into the competitive space. According to Yaa Pono, ‘Fa Adwen’ is off his upcoming ‘Mawusi EP’ which he intends to unveil by the end of the year.
‘Fa Adwen’ produced by Gbevu Music Group is a blend of HipHop and Hiplife and features rapper, Flowking Stone.
The ‘Obiaa Wo Ne Master’ hitmaker mentioned that even though he has been quiet in the last few years, he has been working hard behind the scenes to come out with very good songs which will be appreciated by all. He said this is not the first time he has gone missing in action, only to bounce back with good stuff.
“This is Yaa Pono we are talking about here. I always have something up my sleeves and I know this time around, it will be more than fireworks. When I dropped ‘Gbee Naabu’, it was at a time when people thought nothing good could come from me again but see what happened. I’m just unpredictable so people should just watch out for me”.
