Dr. Bawumia Commissions First-ever GCB Bank in North East Region

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the Vice President of Ghana, has officially opened the first branch of the GCB Bank PLC at Nalerigu in the North East Region.

According to the Vice President, the bank, which is the first-ever commercial bank in the newly created North East Region is expected to, among other things, offer petty traders and farmers in and around communities in Nalerigu access to financial inclusion and solutions, which hitherto, were far from their reach.

“I am excited to be called upon to join the management and staff of GCB Bank PLC as well as the Chiefs and People of Nalerigu for the opening of GCB Bank’s first branch in the North East Region in the regional capital, Nalerigu.”

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

The Opening of the Bank, a Historic and Exciting Moment

Dr. Bawumia lauded the decision by the GCB Bank PLC to respond to the Nalerigu indigenes request for a financial institution. He thus, said, “The opening is a historic and exciting moment for the people as it also marked the first-ever commercial bank in Nalerigu and its adjoining communities.”

The Vice President ceased the opportunity to applaud the government for creating new regions, noting that it was out of the initiative that the North East Region was created. He indicated that the region will see many more infrastructural and developmental projects.

“This was what our government envisaged when we decided to create six more regions to decentralise and quicken the rate of development for excluded communities. It is refreshing to note that many communities in the newly created regions are having access to services which previously eluded them and also receiving their fair share of national infrastructure development.”

This is in response to the growing business population, opportunities and for the convenience of businesses and customers in the environs.

In his speech at the opening ceremony, Mr John Adamah, the Head of Consumer Banking Department of GCB, noted that with the opening of the Nalerigu branch, “We can all heave a heavy sigh of relief as we bring to an end the long and tortuous journey to get a presence in the North East Region.”

“Our rich product range also provides variety to our cherished customers. The market-dominating 24-hour personal loans, recently embellished under the ongoing GCB personal loan promotion; our scheme loan product for institutions; our Facility Against Investment product targeted at people who want to borrow against their investments; our salary advance facility that allows salaried employees to anticipate their salaries in times of need, will soon be further enriched by our new product, Controller Loans, which would allow non-GCB accountholders on the payroll of the Controller and Accountant-General`s Department to access personal loans.”

Mr John Adamah

The Head of Consumer Banking announced, “We shall soon introduce some offerings for our Micro and Small Enterprises, many of which are in the region. Your Bank for life also has on offer a range of liability and asset products and services for our valued Corporate and SME customers. Call on us for all your banking needs.”
