Atlantic Lithium Limited (AIM: ALL, ASX: A11, GSE: ALLGH, OTCQX: ALLIF), an African-focused lithium exploration and development company, has achieved a significant milestone as Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted the environmental permit (EPA permit) for the company’s flagship Ewoyaa Lithium Project.

This development marks a pivotal step toward the realization of Ghana’s first-ever lithium mine, poised to play a crucial role in the country’s growing mining sector. The issuance of the EPA permit represents a green light for the company’s proposed activities at the Ewoyaa Lithium Project, as outlined in its Mine and Process Environment Impact Statement (EIS).

Neil Herbert, Executive Chairman of Atlantic Lithium, expressed the importance of this development.

“The grant of the EPA permit marks a major step towards the construction of Ghana’s first lithium mine and follows a collaborative engagement process with the EPA and the residents of the Project’s catchment area to ensure their alignment with the Company’s proposed activities at Ewoyaa.”

Neil Herbert, Executive Chairman of Atlantic Lithium

Herbert emphasized that the approval showcases the company’s commitment to responsible environmental stewardship, adding that they are delighted to have garnered the full support of both the EPA and the local communities.

The permit not only formalizes the environmental approval but also signifies the company’s compliance with Ghana’s regulatory framework for responsible mining practices. With this approval in hand, Atlantic Lithium is one step closer to advancing its project toward the construction phase, laying the groundwork for a new era in Ghana’s mining industry.

The permit’s approval is the result of a comprehensive process that included feedback from multiple stakeholders, including local communities affected by the Ewoyaa Project. Atlantic Lithium worked closely with the EPA, submitting a draft EIS in May 2024.

This submission was followed by two public hearings in February and June 2024, held in the project’s local communities of Ewoyaa and Krofu. The meetings were well-attended, reflecting the strong local support for the project.

During the hearings, community members were able to raise concerns and provide feedback on the company’s plans. The company actively incorporated this feedback into its final EIS, ensuring that the concerns of local residents were addressed.

The resulting EPA permit reflects a balanced approach to economic development and environmental protection, laying a solid foundation for the project’s advancement.

“This approval is a testament to Atlantic Lithium’s commitment to acting as a responsible custodian of the land on which we operate, which we consider to be imperative to the long-term success of the Project.

“We are delighted to have full backing from the EPA and our local stakeholders. We would like to express our gratitude to the EPA for their direction throughout the permitting process, which has enabled the advancement of the Project at pace.”

Looking ahead, Atlantic Lithium remains focused on advancing the Ewoyaa Project to the next stage of development. The company has indicated that it will provide further updates as it completes the necessary steps to move the project into the construction phase.

“We look forward to updating the market on the completion of the remaining steps ahead of us, which will see Ewoyaa achieve shovel-readiness.”

Neil Herbert, Executive Chairman of Atlantic Lithium

With the environmental permit secured, the company is now focused on completing the remaining steps in the permitting process to achieve “shovel-readiness” for the Ewoyaa Project. This includes finalizing the necessary regulatory approvals and preparing for the construction phase, which will bring Ghana its first operational lithium mine.

Lithium, a key component in the production of batteries used in electric vehicles and renewable energy storage, is becoming an increasingly valuable resource in the global green energy transition. Ghana’s strategic entry into the lithium supply chain is expected to bolster the country’s economy and position it as a key player in the critical minerals market.

The successful development of the Ewoyaa Lithium Project represents a promising future for Ghana’s mining sector, with the potential to position the country as a significant player in the global lithium supply chain. As the world continues to shift toward green energy and electric mobility, Ghana stands poised to play a key role in the future of sustainable energy production.
