West African Energy Summit: Spotlighting Offshore Opportunities for Global Investment

As the world’s attention turns towards the burgeoning energy sector in West Africa, the upcoming West African Energy Summit, scheduled for the 3rd to 5th of September 2024 in Accra, Ghana, is set to be a pivotal event.

This gathering of industry leaders, policymakers, and investors will spotlight Offshore West Africa as the preferred investment hub for global operators seeking to capitalize on the region’s vast energy potential.

The summit’s timing could not be more opportune, coinciding with recent groundbreaking discoveries in Côte d’Ivoire that have significantly heightened interest in the highly prospective Tano Basin and the broader transform margin, which spans across both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

Offshore West Africa has emerged as a critical player in the global energy landscape, offering a unique blend of untapped resources and strategic geographical advantages. The region’s offshore oil and gas reserves, combined with its political stability and favorable regulatory environment, make it an attractive destination for international energy companies.

The West African Energy Summit will serve as a platform for these companies to explore new opportunities, forge partnerships, and discuss the latest technological advancements in offshore exploration and production.

Mr. Dan Hyland, Operations Director of OGV Group, the organiser of the West African Energy Summit in collaboration with the Petroleum Commission, Ghana, expressed his confidence in Ghana’s potential and that of its neighboring countries to international operators.

“We believe Ghana holds huge international interest for global operators, and we are delighted to promote the wider transform margin as part of our summit. Given the recent commitment from the Ivoirian Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy – Mamadou Sangafowa Coulibaly to attend the summit, we are very excited that he will be sharing exclusive insights into the potential of the Ivoirian offshore basin in person at our event”.

Mr. Dan Hyland, Operations Director of OGV Group

The transform margin, a geological feature characterized by high heat flow and tectonic activity, is a key area of interest within the Tano Basin. Recent discoveries in Côte d’Ivoire have underscored the potential of this region, which extends across both Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire.

These findings have ignited significant interest among global operators, who see the transform margin as a promising frontier for future energy development. The summit will provide a crucial opportunity for stakeholders to discuss the implications of these discoveries and how they can be leveraged to drive economic growth and energy security in the region.

Impact on the Continent

Energy

The West African Energy Summit is expected to have far-reaching implications for the continent. By attracting investment and fostering collaboration among regional and international stakeholders, the summit can accelerate the development of the region’s energy infrastructure.

This, in turn, can lead to increased energy production, job creation, and economic diversification. Moreover, the focus on offshore exploration and the transform margin could pave the way for sustainable energy solutions, contributing to the continent’s efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and transition towards renewable energy sources.

The West African Energy Summit also presents a unique opportunity for participants to gain comprehensive insights into the open acreage and farm-in opportunities in the transform margin.

With participation from key industry players and government representatives from Nigeria, Cote d`Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Gambia, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Mauritania, Namibia, and many more, attendees can expect unparalleled networking opportunities, expert insights, and strategic discussions that will further their business interests in West Africa.

Mr. Hyland added, “The West Africa Energy Summit will provide a New Ventures Forum, a National Showcase, a Petroleum Data Workshop, and a ‘Skills and Training Workshop.’ [This is] all designed to examine and spotlight the very best energy opportunities across Offshore West Africa, at one conference – a feat never seen before.”

The West African Energy Summit represents a significant milestone in the region’s energy journey. As the world seeks new sources of energy, Offshore West Africa stands out as a promising frontier.

With the spotlight on the Tano Basin and the broader transform margin, the summit offers a unique opportunity to harness the region’s energy potential and drive forward the continent’s economic and energy security objectives. As we look ahead to the 3rd to 5th of September 2024, the eyes of the global energy community will be on Accra, where the future of energy in West Africa will be shaped.
