AGI Launches 14th Ghana Industry and Quality Awards to Spur Global Competitiveness

The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) has once again raised the bar with the official launch of the 14th edition of its renowned Industry and Quality Awards in Accra.

This year’s event, themed “Accessing New Markets through Improved Quality Standards to Drive Business Growth and Job Creation,” did more than just signal another awards season — it echoed a heartfelt call for Ghanaian industries to embrace quality as a way of life.

The launch drew together influential figures from across the business community, government, and development agencies, all united in their vision of a transformed industrial landscape anchored on world-class standards.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Nora Bannerman-Abbott, Chairperson of the Awards Planning Committee, highlighted how the AGI Industry and Quality Awards have over the years become a trusted platform for honoring outstanding businesses that are setting benchmarks in competitiveness, innovation, and adherence to quality standards.

According to Dr. Bannerman-Abbott, the awards do not merely hand out trophies — they inspire businesses to raise their game, foster a culture of excellence, and actively seek growth beyond Ghana’s borders.

She stressed that this year’s theme aligns closely with government’s vision of a 24-hour economy — an ambitious plan designed to move Ghana towards an export-led economy.

“For Ghanaian businesses to compete and thrive in today’s interconnected markets, quality must be the culture, the way of thinking, and an integral part of the production processes.”

She added that quality has real implications for the survival of businesses, the creation of meaningful jobs, and Ghana’s standing in the global trade ecosystem.

Quality as the Passport to New Markets

In a speech delivered on behalf of the Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Madam Cynthia Dzokoto, Director for SMEs at the Ministry, emphasized that the focus on quality fits neatly within the government’s broader strategy to reshape Ghana’s trade and production systems. She reiterated that the 24-hour economy policy seeks to drive inclusive growth, not by exporting raw materials as Ghana has done for decades, but by encouraging value addition and making Ghanaian products globally competitive.

“These awards reflect not just recognition but a powerful call to action for Ghanaian enterprises to raise their performance to meet global standards,” Madam Dzokoto stated. She further noted that in this era of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), Ghanaian businesses must not merely participate in trade—they must excel. She described quality standards as “our passport to new markets,” highlighting the immense opportunity for Ghanaian industries to leverage quality to expand their reach.

Championing Innovation, Standards, and Trust

Past AGI President Dr. Prince Ko Kludjeson, who spoke on behalf of the AGI President Dr. Humphrey Ayim-Darke, commended AGI for its dedication to celebrating industrial excellence. He urged Ghanaian businesses to place high value on quality assurance, innovation, and compliance with international standards.

Dr. Kludjeson made it clear that these attributes are no longer optional—they are essential for any business hoping to make a mark globally.

“With quality standards, Ghana will not only improve its trade balance, but also carry the same momentum for global economic cooperation,” he said. He encouraged industries to prioritize building trust with customers, strengthen supply chain security, and pursue sustainable business practices, all of which are critical to succeeding in today’s highly competitive and interconnected markets.

The launch event also provided an opportunity to recognize the contributions of 11 companies that have consistently supported the AGI awards over the years. Their continued partnership speaks to the shared vision within Ghana’s industrial community — a vision where businesses lift each other up in pursuit of excellence.

The 14th AGI Industry and Quality Awards promises to be a true celebration of Ghanaian enterprise. The categories span major industry awards, sector-specific honors, inclusive business awards, regional recognitions, and honorary awards. Each category represents a chance for businesses across the country to showcase how they are pushing boundaries and setting new standards.
