GCB Bank Honors Its Pledge To UCC With A Cheque Of GH¢300,000

Ghana Commercial Bank

Ghana Commercial Bank, popularly known as GCB Bank Limited has honored its pledge to the University of Cape Coast with a cheque of GH¢ 300,000.

This amount is the bank’s support towards the establishment of a Biomedical and Clinical Research Centre in the school.

During the presentation of the cheque on behalf of the Bank, the Regional Lead, Corporate Banking for Southern Sector, Mr. Joshua Dadzie, reiterated the Bank’s commitment to contributing its quota towards the development of the University, adding that, the Management of the Bank highly cherished its partnership with the school.

Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, Vice-Chancellor of UCC, on his part, expressed his immense appreciation to GCB for the support. The gesture, he continued, would go a long way to help the University to facilitate the construction of the Centre.

Also present during the meeting were the Registrar, Mr. Jeff Onyame; Provost of the College of Distance Education, Prof. Anokye Mohammed Adams; Chairman of UCC@60 Anniversary Planning Committee, Prof. L. Sam-Amoah and Secretary to the UCC@60 Anniversary Planning Committee, Mr. Nasir Y. Entsie.

Mr. Lawrence Ofori-Addo, the Relationship Manager for GCB; Mr. Ahmed Salim Yakubu and Emmanuela Ansah, National Service Person, made up the delegation who visited the Univeristy of Cape Coast.

Recalling the events that led to the redemption of GCB’S pledge, in October 2022, Management of the Bank promised to support UCC to establish the Biomedical and Clinical Research Centre as part of the 60th anniversary of the University.

The Research Center was top on the agenda of the Anniversary planning committee, thus, engineered their bold step to approach Corporate Organizations for support towards this worthy cause by soliciting for funds.

It was against this backdrop that the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong, as well as members of the UCC@60 Planning Committee, paid a courtesy call to Management of the Ghana Commercial Bank in Accra. 

UCC’s visit to GCB

During UCC’s vistit to GCB, Prof. Boampong was greeted by the Deputy Managing Director of Finance at the Bank, Mr. Kofi Adomakoh, who fervently implored the Bank to aid the University in establishing a Research Center to improve education. 

According to the school’s Vice-Chancellor, the Center promises to be a blessing to Ghanaians from all walks of life, as well as other nationals. 

Explaining further, he mentioned that the University had a competent human resource team to embark upon medical related research but lacked the requisite infrastructure to do so. 

Utilizing well the opportunity at hand, Prof. Boampong invited Management of the GCB Bank to its 60th anniversary celebration.

Mr. Socrates Affram, Deputy Managing Director in charge of Finance at GCB,  on behalf of Mr. Kofi Adomakoh, Managing Director of the Bank, warmly received the delegation from UCC delegation.

In his interaction with the UCC team, Mr. Affram indicated that the Bank was ready to assist the UCC build the Biomedical and Clinical Research Center.

Mr. Boampong noted the contribution of the facility towards aiding research and said, it will help in tackling pressing national issues. 

Mr. Affram observed that research played a critical role in solving existing and emerging issues, saying the time was ripe for the University to be aided to make its dream of building a Biomedical and Clinical Research Center, a possibility.

The Bank, Mr. Afram added, was ready to partner with UCC to build a hostel to relieve students of the perennial accommodation challenges facing the University.

With a word of assurance, Mr. Afram restated that the Bank would continue to engage with UCC to roll out strategies to support the staff and students.

Mr, Afram, then, on behalf of the Management and Board of GCB, congratulated UCC on its 60th anniversary and also accepted Prof. Johnson Nyarko Boampong’s invitation to participate in the school’s 60th anniversary grand celebration.
