Mrs. Cynthia Anne Lumor, Independent Non-Executive Director

Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC has announced the appointment of Mrs. Cynthia Anne Lumor as an Independent Non-Executive Director on its board, effective October 31, 2024.

Cynthia Lumor, a seasoned leader with extensive experience in multiple sectors, brings to the board a rich blend of skills that are set to enhance the bank’s strategic direction and commitment to innovative, inclusive leadership. Her diverse background in the oil and gas, telecommunications, and corporate sectors positions her as a valuable addition to the bank’s leadership team.

Cynthia Lumor is recognized as a transformational and forward-thinking business leader, known for her expertise in regulatory affairs, stakeholder management, and corporate governance. Her multifaceted career spans senior leadership roles in various high-stakes industries, including telecommunications, oil and gas, and energy. Her appointment is a strategic move by Standard Chartered to strengthen its board’s capacity and expand its leadership reach within Ghana’s banking landscape.

Commenting on the appointment, Ebenezer Twum Asante, Chairman of the Board of Directors at Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, praised Cynthia’s extensive background and expressed confidence in her ability to contribute meaningfully to the bank’s growth. “Cynthia brings to the Board a rich blend of experience. Her drive for innovation and sustainability will strengthen the Board and further bolster the delivery of our strategic aspirations,” he remarked.

Cynthia Lumor’s Career Journey

Currently, Cynthia serves as the Deputy Managing Director of Tullow Ghana Limited, a prominent name in Ghana’s oil and gas industry. She joined Tullow Ghana in October 2017 as the Director of External Affairs and Social Performance, a role that involved managing the company’s relationships with stakeholders and communities. Her expertise in external relations was instrumental in shaping Tullow’s reputation and social performance strategy.

In 2020, her role expanded to Corporate Affairs Director, where she oversaw broader aspects of corporate communications and public relations. A year later, she was promoted to Deputy Managing Director, a position in which she continues to contribute to the growth and operational excellence of Tullow Ghana.

Prior to joining Tullow, Cynthia held the position of Corporate Services Executive at MTN Ghana, where she was responsible for overseeing key areas such as legal affairs, regulatory compliance, and corporate social responsibility. Her role at MTN involved significant engagement with regulatory bodies and navigating complex legal environments, preparing her well for her later roles in oil and gas.

Cynthia’s career also includes substantial international experience. She spent nearly two decades at AT&T, a US-based telecommunications conglomerate, where she rose to the position of Director of Market Research and Analysis.

Her role in market research involved guiding AT&T’s strategic decisions, which equipped her with a deep understanding of market dynamics and analytical insights — skills that are now invaluable as she steps into her role with Standard Chartered.

Vision for Standard Chartered

Cynthia Lumor’s appointment aligns well with Standard Chartered’s commitment to driving inclusive growth and fostering innovative leadership. Known for its strong legacy and brand presence, Standard Chartered has long been a market leader in Ghana. By bringing on a director with Cynthia’s experience and perspective, the bank is reinforcing its strategic priorities around sustainability, corporate governance, and stakeholder engagement.

I look forward to leveraging my expertise and insights to drive the bank’s ambitions,” she shared. Her commitment to sustainability and transformative organizational growth resonates with Standard Chartered’s values, and she aims to contribute to advancing these ideals within the bank’s operations and outreach.

Cynthia Lumor’s addition to the board is expected to strengthen Standard Chartered’s leadership and enhance its ability to deliver on its strategic goals. With her background in complex regulatory and corporate environments, she brings a wealth of knowledge that will support the bank’s goals of operational excellence and market leadership. Her role will also likely influence the bank’s direction in social responsibility and sustainability, areas where she has shown strong expertise throughout her career.

With Cynthia Lumor on board, Standard Chartered is poised to enhance its strategic direction and uphold its legacy as a leader in Ghana’s financial sector.
