Director of Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, has disclosed that, the opposition party has won thirty six parliamentary seats occupied by New Patriotic Party Members of Parliament.

Speaking at a press conference in the early hours of Tuesday, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah announced that in Greater Accra Region, the NDC has won the Krowor, Ledzekuku, La Dade-Kotopon, Tema East, Adenta, Madina, Ablekuma Central, and Okaikwe North parliamentary seats.

“This means the seats were taken by NPP in 2016, and we have taken them back. So far, if you look at the flips, if you put them together, we are looking at about 36 seats that have flipped”.

He intimated that, in the Eastern Region, Upper Manya, Akwatia, and Ayensuano have been gained by the NDC.

When it comes to Bono East, we’ve flipped Nkoranza North, Nkoranza South, Techiman North and Techiman South. In the Central Region, we’ve flipped Ekumfi, Upper Denkyira West, Awutu Senya West, Cape Coast North, Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Twifo-Ati Morkwa, Asikuma Odoben Brakwa and Gomoa West.”

In the Bono Region, he said the party has won Jaman North, Dorma West, Jaman South

Central Region constituencies like Ekumfi, Upper Denkyira West, Awutu Senya West, Cape Coast North, Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Twifo Atimokwa, Asikuma Odoben Brakwa, and Gomoah West have also been flipped by the NDC, he added.

He further noted that, “99 percent of these figures are not skirt and blouse votes, so it reflects in the Presidential race”.

With vote counting still underway, the NDC Director of Elections cautioned party faithfuls not to indulge in premature celebrations but to remain vigilant.

“We charge all our counting and collation agents to be vigilant and alert in the last hours of the counting in order to secure and protect the overwhelming victory that is coming. No premature celebration,” he said.

Elsewhere, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) parliamentary candidate for the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency, John Dumelo has canned information claiming he is losing the seat to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) incumbent, Lydia Alhassan.

Speaking in an interview, John Dumelo maintains that contrary to trending feeds of his loss, internal checks suggest that he is winning the seat.

“We have done well, and at the end of the day, the one with the highest majority will win. It is looking good for us, both parliamentary and presidential per our internal checks. I think and I know and also hope that we come out victorious.

“But of course, we will have to wait until the collation is over and the EC finally declares”.

Meanwhile, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has asked supporters of the party to stay vigilant during the collation process.

Appreciating party faithfuls in a Facebook post, he thanked Ghanaians for taking part in the 2020 general elections.

“Thank you for coming out to vote in today’s election. Very good results from all parts of the country. We must continue to remain vigilant as we enter the result collation stage. Let’s stay focused and roar to the end”.

Conceding defeat from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) camp in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Tangoba Abayage, in a Facebook post disclosed she is proud of the work she did in the lead-up to the elections.

“Unfortunately I lost to the men!  But I raise my chest boldly out!  Never has there been this fight in Navrongo before. Navrongo wins at the end of it all. No dusting of body; just polishing of shoes and dancing off into the future!  #GodDeyWeDey!”

Conversely, New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma West Constituency, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has announced victory ahead of the Electoral Commission’s (EC) official declaration.

She made the announcement on her official Facebook platform.

Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful, who is seeking a third tenure, contested Reverend Kweku Addo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“Dear Lord, I prayed and you answered. Thank you Ablekuma West for this victory. I am grateful. M’afa Ablekuma West Personal. La hustle ooooo ny3 saaa la wu,” she stated.
