Ghanaian rap musician Derrick Sarfo Kantanka known by the stage name Amerado has stated that amidst the chaos and suffering that 2020 presented to the world, he was somehow blessed.
He made this disclosure during an interview with an Accra based radio station. Counting his blessings, he noted that while most artists were folding up, he came up with a concert that has landed him more recognition. He further mentioned that he even got the opportunity to feature some A-list artists in Ghana on his songs.
“I did so well in 2020 with the help of my team; it was a good year. I personally say 2020 was a blessing in disguise. COVID came and most of the artists were not really active, but, on my side, we came up with a concert called ‘Yeete nsem’, which really boosted my confidence and my audience as well. I also did a couple of songs with Fameye called ‘Twaso’ and I had one called ‘Box of memory’ and recorded another one too with Okyeame Kwame as well. So, 2020 was a very great year in my career”.
Throwing more light on his concert, ‘Yetee Nsem’ (a concert he does every week), he disclosed that his team and himself came up with the idea because they realized several people were bored at home and they needed to do something that will entertain the people. He revealed that he got the shock of his life when one time he posted an episode of the concert and received 50,000 viewership within a space of 10 minutes.
“It has been magical because as a young guy receiving such a huge following; it is crazy. As a young artist, it is not easy to come up with the numbers especially on YouTube because in our side of the world most people are not conversant with streaming and downloads. Those who do too, are thinking of their data bundles, but then the love that they have for ‘Yetee Nsem’ is very shocking and I can’t thank them enough”.
When asked how he was able to get such a huge following considering the part of the World he said: “it is a difficult thing it wasn’t easy. I just had to do my best and stay consistent because that is a very challenging factor. Coming up with the idea is one factor and making sure it doesn’t fall out is another major factor. I have just been learning and making sure I give out my best”.
Recently becoming one of the most sort after artist in Ghana, he added that he had the privilege to perform at the launch of the ‘Chocolate Week’, which was fronted by the Ghana Tourism Authority just yesterday, alongside ‘Susuka’ hitmaker, Kofi Kinata.
That notwithstanding Amerado recently released a new record dubbed ‘Dawgi’ where he collaborated with Africa’s heavyweight rapper, Sarkodie, who also delivered an outstanding rap verse. The new joint ‘Dawgi’ serves as his first official release of the year.
