Independent MP-elect for Gomoa Central, Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has expressed his excitement following the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) defeat in the just-ended 2024 general election.
A Plus accused President Akufo-Addo of ruining the NPP after eight years in power.
He emphasized that the President had been humiliated in the election, and he is glad that Ghanaians had voted against the NPP.
“The general outcome of the election is a great one. Akufo-Addo has destroyed the NPP and it has manifested for everybody to see. If Akufo-Addo had not become the President of Ghana, we would go about telling people that there was one guy who was coming to change Ghana but it is a shame and unfortunate that he doesn’t have time like how John Mahama, J. A Kufour to become the father of the nation and Rawlings also had time.”

According to A Plus, “Akufo-Addo doesn’t have many years left,” adding that he [Akufo-Addo] doesn’t have the people who are going to fight for his legacy.
“Everything free SHS, and that is all they know. You gave people free SHS and he and his government stole everything from us and didn’t listen to us. I walked into his constituency and took the seat from his MP and I want him to understand that is how I managed to help him become President but he has humiliated himself… It is a shame, that they have been silent, opposition, and I am in power.”

When asked if he would align with the NPP or NDC in the 9th Parliament, A Plus said he was still in discussions with both parties and would make a decision based on which would best serve the interests of his constituents.
“We are still talking and we are not there yet. I am not going to make a hasty decision. All that I am interested in is developing Gomoa, and I have to understand why I am caucusing anybody. If it would benefit Gomoa why not.
“NDC has a majority in parliament. And if you have a majority, the tendency of them doing exactly what NPP did is high, so even though they are in the majority they can not silence me anyway.”

A Plus, a musician-turned-politician, contested the Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat in the Central Region as an independent candidate.
He defeated the incumbent NPP MP, Nana Eyiah Quansah, by 2,000 votes, polling 14,277 votes compared to Quansah’s 11, 637.
A Plus Shares Fears Before General Elections

After the 2024 elections, Ghanaian entertainer and media pundit, A Plus, was officially declared Gomoa Central’s new MP-elect.
The entertainer ran as an independent candidate, beating the incumbent Gomoa Central MP, Naana Eyiah Quansah, who had been in office since 2016.
Before the election, a Global InfoAnalytics poll that predicted the presidential elections rightly had shed light on independent candidates’ little to no chances of winning their seats.
The pollster, Mussa Dankwah, predicted that only one independent candidate would make it to parliament.
According to A Plus, he was restless days to the elections. However, a conversation with the pollster Mussa Dankwah eased the tension. A Plus wrote on Facebook.
“Days to the election, I was scared. I didn’t know what to do. At 2 am, I called Mussa Dankwah & he answered. It changed a lot.”
