Ghanaian actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lil Win, has shared a regrettable incident where he was duped by individuals pretending to be lotto agents.

He recounted that during an airport advertisement shoot for Hisense, a supposed lotto agent connected him with another person, allegedly his superior.

“I was in Accra for a Hisense advert. A man, posing as a commander, contacted my manager, claiming to seek me. On the phone, he directed me to a secluded area and spoke of ‘leaked’ lotto numbers he wanted me to bet on. He provided another contact for the lotto digits, which turned out to be him disguising his voice.

“The ‘two sure’ numbers were priced at GH¢3,000. I hurriedly withdrew the amount and handed it over. Later, he returned, claiming the ‘two sure’ numbers were gone, leaving only ‘three sure’ which would cost GH¢5,000.”

Lil Win

LilWin stated that he was not able to recover the full amount, as the scammer had already withdrawn part of it.

“That’s when I realized I had been scammed. I rushed to the MTN office to reclaim the funds, but after banking procedures, I found out the scammer had already taken GH¢2,000.”

Lil Win

He noted that he isn’t the only victim; fellow actors like Akwasi Boadi (Akrobeto) and Vivian Jill have faced similar scams.

Lil Win also rescinded his decision to contest in the parliamentary elections this December.

The actor who was vying for the position in the Afigya Kwabre North constituency in the Ashanti region stated that he doesn’t have enough funds to embark on the campaign.

“I am no longer contesting. I will be contesting for the next four years. I am waiting for that. I am going independent. Likewise, I can’t join a political party because I love both parties [National Democratic Congress and National Patriotic Party] and have friends everywhere.”

Toughest Role As An Actor

Lil Win disclosed the role he always finds challenging in his career as an actor.

According to the renowned actor and producer, playing romantic roles in movies is his toughest challenge as an actor.

“There’s no character I have not played. The only role I’m not comfortable with is romance or love roles. I feel shy to even kiss another character although I will do it, it makes me feel uneasy. Those roles are meant for Van Vicker, Majid. They are best for such romantic roles.”

Recounting a difficult moment on set, LilWin recalled that he once acted as a disabled person in an impromptu moment after he was asked to improvise.

The actor revealed that he has been featured in over 2000 movies since he kickstarted his career.

“I’ve been featured in over 2000 movies since I started. I have a library in my school called Great Minds School. I have kept it there so that the students who want to learn from it can watch and learn from me. If I should add recent series I’ve shot I should be hitting over four thousand movies.”

Lil Win

He stated that he does not look forward to making any profit from the premiere of his new movie titled ‘A Country Called Ghana.’

According to him, the movie was produced out of passion, and he wants all Ghanaians, especially those who do not have access to digital platforms or cannot afford them, to watch the movie during the premiere.

For this reason, he is not worried about not making financial gains from his upcoming premieres.

However, his major aim is for the movie to gain international traction and be featured on global platforms, including Netflix and Amazon, where he will profit.

Despite the costs he has incurred in producing the movie, Lil Win is determined to prove to Ghanaians the quality of the movie, especially considering the controversy surrounding the production process. He aims to ensure that the efforts of the crew are recognized.

The actor also disclosed that the movie will premiere in all sixteen (16) regions across the country due to the hard work that was put into its production.

Lil Win is currently on a media tour to promote his movie ‘A Country Called Ghana’ which will premiere on May 17 at the National Theatre in  Accra.
