Celebrated Ghanaian highlife musician, Abrantie Amakye Dede has waved into calls for the legalization of ‘weed’ smoking in the country.

Speaking in an interview, the legendary musician made the argument that if a person smokes weed, it does not automatically mean he or she is a bad person.

In his view, it will be better if the government makes the smoking of weed in the country legal.

“If you smoke weed, you’re not a bad person. I think the Government should legalize it,” Abrantie Amakye Dede shared.

“In America and parts of Germany and Amsterdam, they’ve legalized it. They are earning money from it. So, in fact, if somebody tells you Ghanaians should legalize weed, I don’t think it’s a problem”.

He further stated that “I have tried it before, but I didn’t like it.” But to him the fact that he didn’t like it doesn’t mean those doing it are bad people.

The thoughts of the ‘Mmaa p3 sokoo’ Hitmaker has over the years been shared by a number of prominent people including some health researchers.

Early this year in April, politician and actor, John Dumelo, charged the government to consider legalizing marijuana. According to him, it will be an avenue for the country to rake in billions just as is being done by several other countries including Germany.

“Germany is set to make billions of Euros from taxes by legalizing marijuana. Then we will turn around and go and borrow that same money with interest for our development, forgetting that we (Ghana) grow the best marijuana in the world”.

John Dumelo

In 2018, reggae artist, Blakk Rasta, also urged the government to create a factory dedicated to marijuana production among other things. He noted that the country could make money not only in exporting the plant but also have the factory refine weed into products like oil and others. Blakk Rasta suggested that restrictions could be employed to ensure the plant was not abused.

Abrantie Amakye Dede also opened up about his yet-to-be-released song with music star, Sarkodie.

According to him, he is about to thrill Ghanaians with new projects since he has been dormant in producing songs for some time now.

Amakye Dede noted that his song with Sarkodie is likely to awe music lovers. He further disclosed that he is working to complete some songs and that he will soon release them to let Ghanaians know that he hasn’t lost his “mojo” as a singer.

“I’m still working on some tracks, I have a song with Sarkodie that I will release anytime from now and I know when they come out they will be a hit,” Amakye Dede said.

Amakye Dede also averred that his doors are always open to any young artiste who wants advice concerning music.
