Tyla is unique in the music industry thanks to her fusion of pop, R&B, and Afrobeat components.

In her acceptance speech, Tyla expressed gratitude to her fans, family, and the BET community.

“Oh my gosh this is crazy, this is also very heavy again. First of all, I love Sexxy Red. I love her so much. This is such a gift to be here. I want to dedicate this one to Africa.

“I want to dedicate this to all the African superstars before me that didn’t get these opportunities that I’m getting. This is just amazing. Africa to the world guys.”

Tyla

Tyla’s recognition as the Best New Artiste highlights both the extraordinary talent and international popularity of her songs.

Her accomplishment signifies a prosperous future and continuous rise in the music industry.

The singer’s self-titled debut album, Tyla, which was released in March 2024, showcases Tyla’s unique blend of Afrobeat, R&B, and pop, creating a fresh and vibrant sound that captivates listeners.

Tyla was up for four awards at the 2024 BET Awards. She also won ‘Best International Act’, beating fellow South African Focalistic.

The other nominees were Asake (Africa), Aya Nakamura (France), Ayra Starr(Africa), BK’ (Brazil), Cleo Sol (UK), Karol Conká (Brazil), RAYE (UK), and Tiakola (France).

Tyla also was up for the ‘Viewer’s Choice Award’ and ‘Best Female R&B/Pop Artist’, but the award ultimately went to SZA.

Other artists who received four nominations on the night included Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Usher, and 21 Savage.

As if winning two awards and wearing a dress designed by Versace wasn’t enough, Tyla was one of the A-list performers on the night.

She performed ‘Jump’, which features US rapper Gunna and Jamaican dancehall star, Skillibeng.

It certainly was a night to remember!

Ayra Starr also lost the ‘BET Her’ Award to Victoria Monét and Best New Artiste to Tyla. Seyi Vibez, who received his first-ever BET nomination, lost the ‘Best New International Act’ award to South Africa’s Makhadzi.

Burna Boy also faced disappointment, losing the ‘Best Male R&B/Pop Artist’ award to Usher and the Best Hip-hop Artist award to Kendrick Lamar.

He performed at the welcome party and also graced the red carpet with elegance.

For Camidoh, it is a great honor to be invited to the BET Awards again after he earned a nomination and performed at the welcome party last year.

The 2024 BET Awards brought stars together from the entertainment industry, media, and sports.

This year’s event, hosted by actress Taraji Henson for the third time, featured red-carpet appearances and memorable performances.
