Ghanaian Kumawood actor, Big Akwes has narrated the emotional toll he faced after a woman who once helped him during a life-threatening illness later tarnished his reputation.

Big Akwes revealed that while he was struggling with severe sickness and financial constraints, a woman stepped in to assist him by buying medicines and helping him cover his medical expenses.

“Some time ago, I was seriously ill in Kumasi. A young man, along with a group of people, came to visit me. They wanted to take me to the hospital the next day, but a man named Packer disagreed and insisted on taking me that same day. He cared for me for a week because I was financially unstable. After that, a woman decided to help and bought drugs for me.”

However, after he recovered and gained fame, the woman began spreading false claims about being the one who saved his life.

“She started tarnishing my image, saying that if not for her, I would have been dead by now. I confronted her about it, and when I asked if she wanted the money she spent on me, she said no. That’s when I truly regretted accepting her help.”

Big Akwes

Reflecting on the painful experiences, Big Akwes said that he no longer wants to receive help from anyone. “If I had to go through such a situation again, I’d rather die in peace than let someone rescue me just to later tarnish my name,” he said.

He further questioned the essence of helping someone out if it only leads to false rumors.

Moreover, Big Akwes denied claims made that he was crying on social media due to marital problems.

He explained that the emotional TikTok video that sparked the discussion was part of a social media trend, not a cry over relationship issues.

“Some music videos don’t align with their songs, sometimes, sorrowful songs are paired with joyous visuals. I did the video because of a social media trend using emotional music.

“That’s why I was crying, not because I was going through a marital crisis. As a public figure, there’s no way I’d post something negative about myself on social media.”

Big Akwes

Aside from that, Big Akwes was also asked if he has ever been ungrateful to anyone who once helped him.

“I’m not ungrateful. Whenever someone helps me, I make sure to show my appreciation. Some people have spread negative rumors about me, but because they’ve helped me before, I won’t say anything bad about them. I just let them talk and stay silent.”

According to Big Akwes, he and his entourage, including the diminutive actor Yaw Dabo, were traveling through Hannover when they were pulled over by the police.

He said the officers had noticed Dabo fast asleep in the back seat of the vehicle. Big Akwes narrated that upon stopping the car, they inquired about Dabo, believing he was a child traveling without supervision.

Big Akwes recounted that he woke Yaw Dabo up to inform him about the police stop, after which the officers asked where the child’s babysitter was.
