Blue Ivy Carter, the lovechild of Beyonce and Jay-Z has received an anticipated nomination for the Grammy awards.
Based on her appearance in her mother’s “Brown Skin Girl” video which featured Saint John and Wizkid, the 8-year-old Carter has broken the internet due to her entry.
The prominent features in the video, being Blue Ivy, Beyonce and other artists like Saint John and Wizkid have all been nominated in the same category, against Future and Drake’s “Life Is Good,” and Anderson Paak’s “Lockdown.
With the apple not falling far from the tree, Blue is certainly following the path of her parents, Beyonce and Jay Z by setting the bar high in the entertainment industry. Jay Z and Beyonce are the most nominated musical performers in the Grammy history, with Jay-Z having 80 nominations, tied with Quincy Jones and Beyonce right behind him, tied with Paul McCartney for 79 nominations.
The eldest of the Carter children made her musical debut crying in the background of one of her father’s songs, “Glory,” and since then, she has been featured in quite a number of her father’s videos.
She’s had a featured verse on Jay-Z songs, made appearances in Beyoncé’s videos, and even won an NAACP Image Award for the video “Brown Skin Girl.”
Leah Peasall of The Peasall Sisters, like Blue Ivy Carter, also made history as the youngest nominee when she was featured on the “O Brother, Where Are Thou?” soundtrack at 8-years-old in 2001.
Now, Blue joins her, and breaking more records as she soars to the top. The young Carter is set to turn 9 in January, less than one month before the 63rd annual Grammy Awards.
At a tender age, Blue this year, has done everything from narrating the audiobook for ‘Hair Love’ to snagging a BET Award for her work on Beyoncé’s song “Brown Skin Girl.”
Now, Blue can add “Grammy nominee” to her already-lengthy list of credits, making her one of the youngest of all time.
As noted by Billboard, Blue and Beyonce were nominated for a Grammy for Best Music Video for “Brown Skin Girl”.
According to Billboard, Blue wasn’t initially considered for the nomination in November and was justifiably stated that, Grammy rules require that “in order for a featured artist to be recognized as a nominee, the artist must be credited and recognized as a featured artist; and there must be significant performance and artistic contribution by the featured artist beyond what might be considered merely accompaniment.”
That notwithstanding, Blue Ivy is one of several celebrities who have posted hand washing PSAs amid the global COVID-19 outbreak.
The 8-year-old used a DIY science experiment to demonstrate how hand washing prevents the spread of diseases and Blue Ivy’s grandmother Tina Knowles posted the tutorial on her Instagram account.
The Grammys are the first and biggest award of the Big Three networks’ major music awards held annually (between the American Music Awards in fall, and Billboard Music Awards in summer).
Being an annual presentation by the Recording Academy, it recognizes achievements in the music industry and the trophy awarded depicts a gilded gramophone.
It features performances by prominent artists, and the presentation of those awards that have a more popular interest.
