Boomplay, one of the largest music streaming services in Africa, has been announced as a partner to 3Music Awards for its 2022 edition.
Boomplay is sponsoring three main categories of the awards this year – the Artiste of the Year, African Song of the Year, and Breakthrough Act of the Year.
This partnership with Boomplay follows the unique relationship between the two brands towards supporting the music ecosystem and Boomplay’s reaffirmed commitment targeted at the growth and development of Ghanaian music.
At last year’s edition of the awards, Boomplay powered the leaders of the New School performance productions and sponsored the Breakthrough Act of the Year category won by Mr. Drew.
Sadiq Abdulai Abu, CEO of 3Media Networks speaking about the partnership, in an interview said:“Boomplay continues to be an ally for 3Music Awards, and we are excited that in our fifth year, we still get to partner with them for the 2022 edition. They were pivotal in the memorable edition of the awards last year, by highlighting their support for the emerging artists, particularly the Breakthrough Act of the Year. This year they are focusing on three top categories, and we couldn’t be more excited about what is in store for the winners and fans”.
Speaking about Boomplay’s involvement, Elizabeth Ntiamoah, General Manager for Boomplay Ghana, noted, “We are elated about continuing our partnership with 3Music Awards for the 2022 edition. Our commitment to supporting the music ecosystem to achieve its potential is key to this partnership. We believe our Ghanaian artists and enabling stakeholders deserve to be celebrated and supported for the work they are doing to push our exploits further and grow the industry”.
Public voting for the awards has already commenced, including the three categories sponsored by Boomplay – Artiste of the Year, African Song of the Year, and Breakthrough Act of the Year.
‘More than Music’, New Mantra of 3Music Awards
This year’s edition is running under the theme, ‘More Than Music’, and it will recognize musical accomplishments in multiple categories including Afropop, hiplife, hip hop, gospel, and alternative.
“‘More Than Music’ is an upgrade on the famed 3Music Awards mantra, ‘Here for the Music’, and aptly encapsulates the elevation in both the standards and make-up of the event this year”, 3Media Networks CEO, Sadiq Abdulai Abu said. “This year, there will be more segments, more awards, more inclusivity, and wider reach. We are putting the spotlight on music and all other auxiliaries that facilitate and enable the success of the art form”.
Scheduled for Saturday, March 26, 2022, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre, 3Music Awards has become a leading music awards scheme, pivoting innovation in the music ecosystem. The 2022 3Music Awards will see the return of a live audience following digital editions due to COVID-19 restrictions over the past two years.
Afropop singer KiDi, who was last year’s biggest winner and won the coveted Artist of the Year Award, will be looking to retain his title. He faces competition from Black Sherif, Celestine Donkor, D-Black, Kuami Eugene, Mr. Drew, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Gyakie.
Meanwhile, entertainment pundit, Vida Adutwumwaa Boateng, was appointed as the new 3Music Awards spokesperson. The appointment, according to the organizers, is in line with the platform’s commitment to promoting and rewarding women who distinguish themselves in the Ghanaian entertainment and arts space.
