Ghanaian actor and media personality, George Quaye has averred that when people are being appreciative of something, they shouldn’t condemn another.
This comes on the back of some people intimating that the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards doesn’t meet up the standard of 3Music awards. According to George, the fact that they are receiving a different experience from what they are used to doesn’t make the VGMA a bad event.
“I was following a chat on social media. A comment which I observed and was quite childish was that people were taking a swipe at VGMA because 3Music awards is giving them an experience they are not used to. So suddenly, it makes VGMA a bad event. Can we start appreciating something without downplaying another?”
George Quaye Commends Organizers of 3Music awards
George Quaye who is also the Senior Events Producer/Director and Head of Media, Brands and Communications at Chatter House mentioned that the 3Music awards show was a “top-notch production” show that needs to be very much celebrated.
“What they did was to create magic. Something which I don’t think we should come and discredit. Let’s celebrate the success. They did their best and gave us a great show. I’ll say kudos to the team. They had all the production elements on point, top-notch. They did it very flawlessly. Generally, they dot their I’s and crossed their T’s”.
The Founder of 3Music Awards Speaks about the show
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the 3Music Awards, Saddiq Abdulai, who was present at the interview revealed that but for the COVID-19 pandemic, they would have had a different setup altogether.
“We actually planned that we were going to wheel that stage just that it would have been smaller. We were planning on Kuami Eugene’s performance with rain. It took months to plan this. So, when the directive came in that live audience shows have been canceled, we had to rethink and create magic for the television live audience”.
3Music Awards, Solely a ‘Made in Ghana’ show
A member of the 3Music team, Eddie also disclosed that every equipment and human resource that was used to make the event successful is from Ghana.
“No member of the team was brought out of Ghana; no supplier was brought out of the country. We need that multipurpose arena and also, we need that professional team that understands exactly what they want and how they want to achieve some of these things”.
That notwithstanding, Jay Foley who was one of the hosts for the awards show posited that moving forward, when arenas are being built for such events, it should be a multipurpose one. According to him, it helps creative people find many ways to “play around” the stage.
“So, I have looked at the design at the staple center in Los Angeles. Where I was privileged to witness the BET awards. I realized that the design of every single artist was customized. They never repeat the set no matter how many performances they have lined up. Those are the conversations that we need to be having. Anyone who has made up their mind to build an arena for entertainment purposes should consider all these.
Inspiration Behind the show
When asked what pushed them, Sadiq, Eddie, and their team to organize such a stellar show, Eddie answered saying “So, the world view is quite huge. Every time you approach a problem, you need to think beyond your market. Because for us, even though we are trying to build something internally here, the focus, in the long run, is to be able to present something to the global platform”.
Speaking about some of their lows they experienced during the show, Sadiq revealed that, there were some technical issues at the beginning of the program. However, that didn’t deter them from putting up a brilliant show.
“On Friday we tried a test run and everything went on smoothly. On Saturday, in the morning, we did it again and everything went well. Just about a few minutes to the time of the main event, the videos stopped playing; a technical hitch. For others, they’ll call it a low point, but for us, we have become accustomed to productions. Some of these things are expected. So, every time you need to develop a certain reaction and quick thinking as well as clarity of thoughts to be able to turn things around”.
He further mentioned that due to the technical problem one particular performance wasn’t aired. However, it will be released on Thursday as an extended play.
“Deadpepol’s performance couldn’t play. But we will rerelease it on Thursday as an extended play”. George George
