Davido continues to set the pace in Nigerian music.
In another milestone, Davido has set a new record for the highest streaming week for a song across all platforms in Nigeria.
The record is courtesy of his new single ‘Funds’ featuring Chike and OdumoduBlvck which garnered 7.38 million streams in its opening week.
This surpassed the previous record of 7.29 million streams set by Asake ‘MMS’ featuring Wizkid.
‘Funds’ joins Boy Pee, Hyce, and Brown Joel’s ‘Ogechi’ remix, and Kizz Daniel’s ‘Twe Twe’ remix featuring Davido to make it his third song in the top 5 list of the highest streaming opening week in Nigeria.
Davido’s ‘Fund’ is a highlife fusion that delivers his quintessential vibrant delivery complimented by Chike’s smooth melodies and OdumoduBlvck’s swaggering flows.
The song reached the summit of the TurnTable Top 100 thus becoming the fourth #1 song of 2024 as it follows in the footsteps of the ‘Twe Twe’ remix, ‘Ogechi’ remix, and ‘Awuke’ featuring YG Marley.

‘Funds’ is the second single off Davido’s upcoming fifth album’Five’ scheduled for release on March 14, 2025.
Tobi Adegboyega Describes Davido as a Gospel Artist
A flamboyant Nigerian pastor based in the United Kingdom, Tobi Adegboyega, stirred discussions after describing Afrobeats superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as a gospel artist.
Adegboyega explained that gospel simply means “good news,” and he believes Davido is spreading it through his music.
He referenced Davido’s hit song “Stand Strong” as an example of uplifting content that fits the gospel narrative.
“Gospel means good news. Everyone there is a gospel artiste. Davido is a gospel artiste. Have you heard: ‘Because I stand strong?’”
Tobi Adegboyega
The pastor was responding to criticism over his decision to feature secular musicians at his recent birthday celebration instead of gospel artists.
He defended his choice, stating that the performers, including Zlatan, were his close friends who supported him unconditionally.
“What I had then was my friends—friends who are there through thick and thin. Davido told me: ‘I just want to be there and perform for one hour.’ They’re my friends. I didn’t pay any of them. They love me, and I will give my friends platforms.”
Tobi Adegboyega
The pastor dismissed criticisms from gospel artists questioning his style of ministry.
He emphasized his preference for surrounding himself with supportive individuals rather than detractors. He concluded, “If gospel artistes aren’t my friends and are instead joining the bandwagon to criticize me by asking, ‘Is that a church?’ What should I do? Drag them with a rope?
“It’s my friends that will be there. Everyone in that room was my friend. Zlatan is like a son to me; his kids are my kids, and his parents are in my house. So should I now say, ‘Well, because you are not gospel artists, let me go and look for some gospel artists who are criticizing me and force them to sing?’
“My friends will always sing at my events, and the next one will be bigger because my circle of friends keeps growing.”
Tobi Adegboyega
Netizens reacted to Pastor Tobi’s reason for inviting secular artists to his birthday party.
“OBO no go minus take it or leave we spreading the good news and we don’t like who don’t like us. P.T RIDE ON. 30BG dey your back.”
