VGMA Reggae/Dancehall Artiste of the Year, Epixode has stated that he would have still won the prestigious award even if the two main Dancehall acts in Ghana, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were nominated in that category.
This comes after many claimed on social media that the absence of Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy from the category created the chance for Epixode to win the award. According to them, Epixode did not deserve the award because “he has no works to show”.
In reaction to this Epixode stated that he deserved the award more than anyone who got nominated in the category. According to him, he has put a lot of effort and hard work into his craft, therefore, he deserved to win the award. Epixode also revealed that the support of the “ghetto youth “also aided him in winning the award.
“People will always have an opinion and say what they want. But I have put in hard work and so I deserved the award. Even if Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy were nominated, I would have still won the VGMA dancehall artiste of the year. There are people out there pushing my agenda especially my ghetto youth. They really helped me to win this award”.
Speaking further, Epixode revealed that it has always been his dream to win the prestigious award. He mentioned that although he’s not an artist who;is so much into the idea of winning awards to prove a point;that he’s good, “this award means a lot to me because of what I stand for, my;ideologies as a Reggae/ Dancehall artiste; and the things that I have been through as an artist to get to where I am right now”.
The ‘Odeshi’ crooner stated that for him, the award represents the;struggle and the difficulties up and coming ‘ghetto’ artists go through. He also disclosed that it was because of this reason he dedicated the award to upcoming artists when he went on stage to claim the award.
Epixode hopes to build a foundation to help ‘ghetto’ youth
Epixode also revealed he’s working on a project to help these “struggling Ghetto youths” to get on their feet through a foundation he’s building up. He urged corporate Ghana to help him achieve this dream of lifting people especially those living in the coastal areas.
In the same vein, Epixode is boasted about how the VGMA award has upgraded his brand as an artist.
Epixode stated that winning the award has solidified his place in the Reggae and Dancehall world as one of the top musicians in that genre of music in Ghana.
He also revealed that ever since he won the award a couple of weeks ago, his numbers have started increasing. He mentioned that his followers on the various social media platforms and his streams have really gained more followership ever since.
Epixode added that this upgrade of his status should also reflect in the amount of money promoters and event organizers pay when booking him for a show or an event because of his standard now.
