Fashion Consultant and Creative Director, Joey, has expressed his candid and unreserved opinion about the red carpet of the 25th Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs).

Providing his review of the red carpet for the recent TGMAs, the Fashion Designer stated there has not been any improvement on the red carpet for the TGMA.

Joey revealed that organizers of the TGMA should have been more selective on particular looks to appear on the red carpet.

He described the 25th TGMA’s red carpet as “chaotic”.

“Not everybody qualifies to be screened on the red carpet and the looks and all of that I guess is another conversation that we have to have with the organizers trying to get the people who are going to get on the red carpet well-fitted enough before they get unto the red carpet. But generally speaking, I wasn’t too excited about the looks that I saw.”

Joey further rated the red carpet for the 25th TGMA below average, giving it four out of ten.

The Creative Director suggested that organizers of the music award should consider partnering with fashion brands in the country to have prior conversations with celebrities to be present on the red carpet.

Joey recalled watching one of Trevor Noah’s shows where he [Trevor Noah] recounted that before his appearance on the Met Gala show, he was called and allocated a designer who discussed with him before the event just to put things in an orderly manner before the event.

Joey believes that moving forward, there must be a collaborative effort from TGMA’s organizers and the celebrities who appear on the red carpet.

She revealed that the red carpet of the TGMAs was extremely choked.

“If everybody is on the red carpet, then, how do we spot the good ones there? We couln’t see whose outfit was good and whose outfit was bad. The thing is more were bad than the number that were good. It was like the bad overshadowed the good.”

He explained that per what he saw at the TGMA, celebrities who attended the event did not put in much effort to look better.

He emphasized that there were ‘mere’ individuals who looked very good and believed were supposed to be on the red carpet rather than some celebrities.

“I really think that sixty percent of regular attendees looked better than celebrities. That’s what I think because I was seeing people in other people’s feeds, snaps, and social media and I was like who is this? Because she is looking so good and I felt like she should be going onto the red carpet to get interviews.”

Yoli Koomsoon explained how she created Naa Ashorkor’s outfit for the TGMAs.

“When Naa Askorkor came, she didn’t have an idea. If you know Naa Ashorkor, she’s not one for bold designs. She likes simple and subtle things.”
