The fifth edition of the Ghana Outstanding Women Awards (GOWA) has been launched colorfully at the Airport View Hotel in Accra.
This year’s edition has tentatively been fixed for September 3, 2022, at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra. The prestigious annual awards gala confers honors on women who have impacted the growth of Ghana in various areas such as entrepreneurship, politics, health, education, sports, and showbiz.
The GOWA founding President, Mrs. Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, speaking at the well-organized event recounted the ups and downs that have confronted the scheme since its inception in 2018.
To her, the growth has been phenomenal and she owes it all to God, family as well as sponsors who have been with the team since day one. She stressed that the significant role women play in nation-building cannot be overlooked, hence the award was instituted to recognize and reward their efforts.
“For me, wherever women are mentioned, my heartbeat. The reason being that, from creation, God created a helpmate for men, which are women and I think it’s about time women rise and celebrate who they are, other than wait to be celebrated. Women have done so much right from conception, but I believe women have not been appreciated as they should, so I encourage women to get educated and know who they are”.

The Chairperson of the event, veteran broadcaster, Oheneyere Gifty Anti, reiterated the need to empower women by recognizing their efforts.
Other guests who graced the event were Akumaa Mama Zimbi (television and radio broadcast journalist), Reverend Rose Tetteh, CEO of Chartma Herbal Centre; Charity Twumasi, and Nana Yaa Konadu (Broadcast journalist) among others.
Speaking in an interview prior to the anniversary, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum, Executive Director of ASKOF Productions, indicated that the journey to rewarding women’s excellence had been overwhelmingly positive.
According to her, the awards have sparked a desire in women to become more involved in social change, and change the narrative by empowering other vulnerable women and children.
“Celebrating a five-year milestone is very special for us as organizers of the awards scheme, considering the various successes that have been chalked. This year’s awards would be spectacular, with further details to be announced at the launch in June, so all women should brace themselves for a memorable event later in the year”.

Organized by ASKOF Productions, the awards will confer honors on Ghanaian women who contribute their quota to society through charity and socio-economic developmental projects. Women who have excelled in the areas of health, science, politics, film, and music, among others, receive recognition for their positive exploits in their respective fields of work.
GOWA has grown over the past years, and this year’s edition promises lots of excitement. The past four editions of GOWA have seen the likes of Afia Pokua (2018), Velma Owusu Bempah (2019), and Deloris Frimpong Manso, popularly known as Delay, winning the topmost awards.
