How Ghanaians Are Reacting To Black Sherif’s Win

Ghana’s Black Sherif landed a massive win for the continent Tuesday night in the United States of America as he won the coveted Best International Flow Award at the 2023 BET Hip Hop Awards.

Black Sherif was nominated for the honor for the first time in his career and managed to bring it home to make all Ghanaians proud. The win marks another major milestone in the young rapper’s budding career!

Blacko thus becomes the second Ghanaian to win Best International Flow since Sarkodie’s impressive win in 2019, during the category’s inaugural year.

His professional name, Black Sherif, simply means ‘high born African’. Black Sherif was studying marketing at the University of Professional Studies (UPSA) but dropped out to concentrate on his career and since then making waves worldwide.

Black Sherif, who has experienced, an astonishing ascent in his career within the past two years, emerged victorious over other notable artists, including AKA (South Africa), Central Cee (UK), Gazo (France), J Hus (UK), K.O (South Africa), Major RD (Brazil), Ninho (France), Sampa The Great (Zambia), and Tasha and Tracie (Brazil).

The show was taped in Atlanta on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, and will be shown live on October 10, 2023.

He stated his musical influences are rappers Kanye West, Travis Scott, Saint John, Dave, Stormzy, J Hus, and Ghanaian artists Mugeez and Sarkodie.

According to Twitter users, his triumph is seen as a breath of fresh air, especially considering his previous nomination in the Best International Flow Category at the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards, where he faced defeat against Benjamin EPPS.

Renowned dancehall star Shatta Wale extended his heartfelt congratulations to Black Sherif just hours after the latter clinched the Best International Flow award at the prestigious BET Hip Hop Awards.

The news of Black Sherif’s victory has brought joy to many Ghanaians across the country.

Taking to his Twitter page, Shatta Wale called on all Ghanaians to join him in celebrating Black Sherif’s remarkable achievement.

“Chale let’s say congrats to Blacko. He is a cobra,” Shatta Wale tweeted.

He appeared visibly elated, showing his support and admiration for the talented rapper. Shatta Wale’s message of congratulations is one of many messages of praise and well-wishes that have flooded social media platforms following Black Sherif’s win.

Black Sherif’s triumph at the BET Hip Hop Awards is particularly significant given the stiff competition he faced. His music is a blend of highlife, reggae, and hip-hop, specifically UK drill, a subgenre of drill music and road rap.
