Ace producer, Appietus, has revealed that he charges not less than GH¢5,000 when an artiste chooses to work with him.

Speaking in an interview, he explained that hiring the services of a producer is expensive because they work long hours and hand over their intellectual property to the musician. Appietus noted that the charge, however, increases depending on what the artiste may want. He explained that some artistes can pay as much as GH¢10,000 depending on the work that goes into the production, how long it takes to make the beat and many other factors.

“If you have like GH¢5,000 going, you can work with me. It takes talent to put a beat together. It is very expensive because now I am giving you my intellectual property and it is going to make you who you are”.

Appietus

Appietus mentioned that producers put years of practice into making great beats for artistes which, in turn, can boost their careers.

“When you give a piece of cloth to a tailor to sew and you watch them, you see it as easy but when you’re given the cloth, you can’t do it. This is years of practice, experience and becoming better. So, this is the base fee”.

Appietus

Appietus added that GH¢5,000 is what he usually charges up-and-coming artistes who are yet to make a name for themselves in the industry.

Spaeking further about issues in the music industry, Appietus asked new artists to show respect to the veterans. He asked industry players to desist from retiring old musicians when new ones emerge.

Appietus indicated that Nigerians still hold on to their veteran musicians even when new ones are ushered which is the reason they have a blossoming industry.

“2Baba of Nigeria is still respected and the Nigerians see him as a legend any day, anytime. Here in Ghana, a new artiste pops up and suddenly it is as if the old ones have not done anything. Since Black Sherif came, everyone is on him as if we don’t have other artists in Ghana”.

Appietus

Appietus added that he sees no wrong when support is given to new artists but they shouldn’t be replaced with existing adding that most of them do not have what it takes to have sustainable careers.

“Some of these young artists come in with a lot of fire and in the next two or three years, they are nowhere to be found. But we are talking about the likes of Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede, Kojo Antwi, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, and Okyeame Kwame who are still relevant after more than a decade. We should respect such artists and cherish them. Ghanaians like choosing new things and dropping the old ones. It puts some bitterness in these old musicians and I would feel the same if I were in their shoes”.

Appietus

Appietus said retiring older artists before their time puts bitterness in them. He mentioned that genres like Crank and Azonto could not be sustained because the traditional genres of the country were abandoned.

“I know some of these old musicians who had very beautiful songs but we decide not to listen anymore to them because we think the new ones have arrived and we no longer need them”.
