Grammy-nominated Reggae musician, Rocky Dawuni has debunked numerous reports circulating on social media that suggests he disproved Stonebwoy’s nomination for Grammy Awards after three albums he was featured on earned nominations in the 64th edition.
According to Rocky Dawuni, he never mentioned Stonebwoy’s name when stating the criteria by which one can call himself or herself as a Grammy nominee. He stated that he “never condemned” the Bhim Nation President on no account especially given their cordial relationship.
Speaking in an interview, Rocky Dawuni lamented how his interpretation on who can be a Grammy nominee was misquoted on numerous platforms and intended to create a feud between Stonebwoy and him. He also expressed his displeasure on how social media users misinterpreted his statement while tagging Stonebwoy as the subject when he never made mention of his name or any other artist.
Rocky Dawuni then urged the media and social media users to channel their energies into positivity, where musicians will be brought together as one, instead of setting up feuds between them.
Rocky Dawuni Narrating what makes an artist a Grammy nominee
In an earlier interview, Rocky Dawuni explained that being featured on an album that has a nomination at the Grammy’s does not automatically make you a nominee. According to him, there are rules governing who is or should be a nominee.
Rocky acknowledged the value a nomination adds to the craft of any musician, but emphasized that it should not be taken lightly.
“There is a lot of confusion, as you would understand, Grammy nomination is for a body of work, so there is a difference between a nominee for a Grammy and also featuring to be part of a song of a Grammy-nominated album. You have contributed to the song, but you are not a nominee. The thing is, I am not the one saying it; you should go to the Academy website and see who are the nominees”.

Rocky Dawuni noted that sometimes, being featured on a record is a great achievement; however, people should be able to “call a spade a spade” especially when there are rules governing the award scheme.
“I see some of our media houses… not doing their due diligence because if you are a reputable media house, and you are also taking information that is not really the right information, then it diminishes [the importance of the Grammy]. Because of the value of the Grammy… we have to keep the value of the Grammy so that people strive for it. It’s not something that I want to do like I am a nominee or something like that”.

Dawuni’s comments came in the wake of claims that the Grammy Awards have also nominated Ghanaian dancehall artist, Stonebwoy for his contribution to certain albums that he was featured.
Shortly after the media space was filled with Rocky Dawuni’s assertions, Stonebwoy was reported to have indirectly replied to Rocky Dawuni.
Stonebwoy wrote on Snapchat mostly in pidgin English: “Chairman is so quick to remove credit on a young kid! We know them, but we think to say dem change, chai dem never change”.
Stonebwoy’s message clearly suggested that he wasn’t happy about Rocky Dawuni’s opinions.
