I WILL NEVER RECORD A SONG FOR ANY POLITICAL PARTY- KIDI

Dennis Nana Dwamena (Kidi)

Dennis Nana Dwamena popularly known as Kidi has revealed, he would not be found recording a song for any political party.

Speaking in an interview, the award-winning artist emphasized that, doing a song for a political party is a “career suicide”, as a result, he would not involve himself in any political activities whatsoever.

According to him,  being in the spotlight is not easy and  the moment one finds himself involved in one political party, that individual is bound to lose fans who oppose the political party he may be entangled with.

“No, I won’t be doing any song for any political party because unfortunately in this part of the world we find ourselves in, that’s career suicide. Under normal circumstances, if you do a song for NPP it shouldn’t mean NDC shouldn’t ‘mess’ with you or vice versa. But unfortunately, that’s the reality. Once you do a song for one party, the other party doesn’t ‘mess’ with you”.

He further noted that,  because he wants everyone to enjoy his music, he would rather keep his political identity to himself.

“You know where I am trying to get to, I want to make everyone enjoy my music. NPP, NDC, CPP and so I don’t want to …I am a citizen and I have the right to have a political party I support but that’s between me and myself”.

This does not come as a surprise as the likes of Charles K Ofosu  (Daddy Lumba), John Dumelo and Cwesi Oteng are among some celebrities who have received backlash from the public for openly endorsing political leaders.

Meanwhile, some celebrities have bitterly complained about how being involved with a political party have caused them major deals.

Cwesi Oteng for instance disclosed that endorsing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in the 2016 elections nearly collapsed his career. Speaking on a show, he said

Cwesi Oteng

“After making that endorsement I went down. It was too bad for my business”.

He went on to tell his reason for endorsing President Akufo Addo and mentioned that everyone has the legal right to choose any political party they want.

“I did what I did because it’s everybody’s civil right to have a political choice so I did it from that perspective.”

He noted that he loved  president Akufo-Addo because of his character and his love for the country.

The ‘God Dey Bless Me’ hitmaker revealed that he wasn’t given anything and he didn’t even expect to be given something for campaigning for the NPP.

That notwithstanding, Cwesi is not the only celebrity to have been faced with this issue. John Dumelo who is an actor and currently the aspiring Member of Parliament for the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency  has been through similar ordeal.

Mr. Dumelo said he lost major deals for endorsing the NDC and the former President John Dramani Mahama.

“I lost some endorsement deals in 2017 after the NPP government took over from the NDC. Not just me but some colleagues of mine. I received calls telling me that my deals with the companies were canceled,” he said.
