The Kenya Fashion Council is calling upon all fashion enthusiasts to design;a travel kit for the Kenyan Olympic team ahead of the Olympic games in July.
The competition which is divided into 3 categories; clothing, accessories, and footwear is sponsored by Tusker.
According to Tusker, this gives Kenyans “the opportunity to stand tall, rooted in our strength, optimism, and creativity as Kenyans”.
The only eligibility to apply is to be a Kenyan over the age of 21 years. Nonetheless, by entering the competition, the 3 winners or winning teams will sign an agreement;to waive intellectual property rights on all products created within the project to Tusker.
The Kenya Fashion Council in a statement noted that “The BEST IN KENYA;design will be worn by the BEST of Kenyan athletes, designed to have a distinctly Kenyan look;and feel that includes our national colors and brand logos”
Furthermore, the statement noted that the designs will be reviewed by a Judging Panel;made up of fashion experts and representatives from Tusker and the National Olympic Committee.

The statement also mentioned that the judges will base their selection;on, Aesthetics (visual appeal of the design), Function (practicality and suitability for travel and movement), Representation;(best integration of the Tusker and Kenya National;colors in the design), Construction (feasibility of production), Originality (design must be your own, intrinsically unique and not copied).
That notwithstanding, the judges will curate 3 full looks;(Clothing, Accessories, and Footwear) which will be drawn up by a fashion illustrator as the final possible complete outfit. The Kenyan public will vote for the Winning Look to represent Team Kenya.

More so, the total prize money is 500,000 Kenyan Shillings and it will be allocated to the three various categories. The winner of the clothing designs category, which includes a stylish jacket;or hoodie, pants, and a top will get 250,000 Kenyan Shillings. The winner of the accessories category stands a chance to win 150,000 Kenyan Shillings. Designs in this category include a cap/hat, reusable face mask, and jewelry. For footwear, sports shoes for all sizes which will however not be used for;the competition the winner will get 100,000 Kenyan Shillings.
The Kenya Fashion Council (KFCO) is a multi-stakeholder body mandated to design;strategies and interventions to support and sustain the growth of the Kenyan textile;and apparel value chains, while also creating opportunities for paths to global markets through strategic collaborations.
They work hand in hand with the wider creative industries to engage government;and government agencies to ensure favorable policies and operational environments; are being designed to ensure a flourishing creative industry within the country.
Also, they aim to elevate the fashion sector in Kenya into a functional and vibrant;industry that can compete globally while being credible, dynamic, and economically sustainable.
