Ghana’s new Afrobeat/Highlife sensation, Kojo Blak, has revealed how he bagged a collaboration, ‘Next Door’, with rap superstar Sarkodie.
He disclosed how Sarkodie texted him to work with him.
“When I released ‘Rugged’, he texted me in my DM (direct mail), telling me he’d love to work with me, that is when he comes back from his tour. He normally posts my stuff.
“So he made a post, and I thanked him. Then he texted me [in reply] telling me after his tour, he’d like to work with me, so he’d invite me over.”

The crooner who creates under the music direction of production duo Ugly x Tough in the coastal town of Labadi said he sent Sarkodie “a number of songs – a list of about four songs – to select from because he’s the Highest; he has to make his own choice, and he picked this new song called ‘Next Door’.”
To Kojo Blak, born McDonald Adotey Braide, ‘Next Door’, which has become an instant hit, “is a life-changing moment.”
“So I thank him for it. I’ll say it’s all by the grace of God.”

However, Kojo Blak mentioned that the contents of his new song, ‘Next Door’ featuring rap star Sarkodie, are reminiscent of Equatorial Guinea’s controversial high-ranking civil servant Baltasar Ebang Engonga.
“I tell you these are Balthazar things, but you’ll hear it next door. Balthazar things, but we’ve added melodies, sweet melodies.”

During November 2024, videos went viral on social media showing what looked like Baltasar Ebang Engonga, the Head of Equatorial Guinea’s National Financial Investigation Agency, being intimate with multiple women in multiple instances, including one that appeared to be in his office.
The man shown in the videos displayed such enthusiasm in the act, which sparked a social media challenge and a dance.
The disgraceful videos supposedly showing Baltasar with wives of high-profile officials in Equatorial Guinea prompted Vice-President Teodoro Obiang Mangue to warn civil servants caught having sex in their offices will face “severe measures”.
Kojo Blak revealed he was a signee of “a Ghanaian label which is Blue Magic, and Anchor Recording, my international label”.
The February 26, 2025, release of ‘Next Door’ has received mixed reactions on social media. While some enjoy the erotic bop, like Dancehall star J. Derobie, others, including Entertainment Journalist Kwame Dadzie, have expressed worry that Kojo Blak released the track prematurely because he did not “milk” it well enough.
Meanwhile, the singer has hinted at a new tape only next month. His 757 tape was released on May 15, 2024, with ‘Rugged’ as the seventh out of 9 songs.
