A mural to Marcus Rashford was vandalized just after England lost the Euro final to Italy.
The Manchester United player missed his penalty in a tense shoot-out;which could have helped the England team emerge winners of the game.
From pictures sighted on social media, it can be seen that graffiti was scribbled across the artwork. The unreadable lettering, daubed in blue paint, can barely be seen over the powerful black and white image. It is worth noting that this is not the first time the artwork has;been targeted after it was daubed with white paint.
Meanwhile, Police are investigating to arrest culprits involved in the;criminal activity as they are treating it as ‘racially aggravated vandalism’.
Chief Superintendent Paul Savill, speaking on the issue, said: “This is disgraceful behavior and will absolutely not be tolerated.
“Greater Manchester prides itself on being made up from a number of diverse communities and hates crime in any form. This is completely unacceptable and not welcome here in our city”. Also,. Meanwhile,. More so,. Nonetheless,. Yet,. Nevertheless,. Also,. More so,. That notwithstanding,. Also,.
That notwithstanding, the mural will be repaired by popular;street artist, Akse as he is the artist who created the mural.
The black and white mural on the wall of Coffee House Café on Copson Street, in an;area close to where the England and Manchester United footballer lived with;his family before moving to Wythenshawe, was made in November 2020.
Based on a photograph by Daniel Cheetham, the mural was created in collaboration;with Withington Walls, a community project creating public artworks.
It was made to honor Rashford for his campaign which forced;the government into a U-turn on the provision of free school meals last year.
Rashford and others face racist attacks
Rashford was not the only player who missed his penalty shoot-out as;his colleagues Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka also missed their penalties. This attracted racist attacks on them on social media. The trio’s social media pages were quickly flooded with;racist comments, leading the Football Association to release a statement condemning the “disgusting behavior”. More so,. Meanwhile,. However,. A spokesperson said: “The FA strongly condemns all forms of discrimination;and is appalled by the online racism that has been aimed at some of our England players on social media. More so,. Again,. More so,. However,. Meanwhile,.
“We could not be clearer that anyone behind such disgusting behavior is not welcome in following the team. We’ll do all we can to support the players affected while urging the toughest punishments possible for anyone responsible.
“We will continue to do everything we can to stamp discrimination;out of the game, but we implore the government to act quickly and bring in the;appropriate legislation so this abuse has real-life consequences. Also,. More so,. Yet,. However,.
“Social media companies need to step up and take accountability;and action to ban abusers from their platforms, gather evidence that can lead to prosecution;and support making their platforms free from this type of abhorrent abuse”. Also,. More so,. Yet,.
Also, British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson condemned the behavior, saying: “This England;team deserve to be lauded as heroes, not racially abused on social media. Those responsible for this appalling abuse should be ashamed of themselves”. Also,. That notwithstanding,. More so,.
