Ghanaian hiplife/hip-pop artist, Agbeshie, has cleared the air, as he has made claims to the song ‘Wrowroho,’ whiles noting that he only featured Medikal on the song.
This follows the controversies of several Ghanaians, who argued that the hit single which was released in 2018, is for Medikal, and Agbeshie was rather featured on the song. He made this revelation during an interview on the ‘New Day- Showbiz’. Abgeshie asserted that even though Medikal had leverage on the song over him, Medikal for once never claimed ownership of the song.
“I think during the time we were releasing the song, he [Medikal] had his controversies with Fella Makafui and Sister Derby. It really gave him the upper hand on the song over me… because the media made it seem so. The song is mine and I featured him on the song. But then he [Medikal] has never said the song is his anywhere, it’s just what happened that made it look like it’s his. Medikal is my brother so he won’t do that”.
When asked how he feels when he is performing the song, and people say that is Medikal’s song he said:
“Sometimes it’s boring because I’ve heard that a lot of times. What I do is, I look beyond just the song. I am a type that doesn’t follow my feelings too much, because, I’ve realized when I do that, I do a lot of wrong things at the end of the day… I have to do the hard work for Ghanaians to know that I am dope”.
Agbeshie who was stuck in London, during the lockdown period in 2020, disclosed that the only reason he was loud on social media, on the issue of the reduction of prices for the COVID-19 test was because, he had to represent the group of people who wanted to speak, but, were voiceless.
“Being a musician doesn’t mean you only go to the studio and record a song or whatever, but, you need to represent a group of people. So that, in times they cannot speak you speak for them. Now the prices have been reduced from 150 dollars to 50 dollars”.
Agbeshie who drops his new single ‘No Worries,’ today opined that the song showed how versatile he is since, he challenged himself to move away from his regular style of music. Speaking on the issue of the negative impact of COVID- 19 on the music industry, he emphasized that, he and his team are putting things in place, as they plan on utilizing the digital platforms available to them, to promote his songs, and get revenue from it, in order not to fold up like some other artists.
“I was talking to my manager, and I was like ‘look, we need to strategize, because, it doesn’t look like COVID is leaving us soon. So what can we do?’ Far from the concerts and all that, the only power we have now is social media. So, we have to come up with strategies to approach the social media…we are hoping for the best”.
