Highlife musician Akwaboah Jnr. has addressed the wave of mockery and criticism following his wedding ceremony, particularly regarding his decision to wipe his lips after kissing his bride.
He clarified that this gesture was not meant to imply that he didn’t enjoy the kiss, as some have suggested. Instead, he explained that lipstick can sometimes smear after a kiss.
“Nobody marries their enemies. That’s the choice I made, and I’m happy about it. I have performed at many wedding ceremonies. I have noticed that after the bride and groom kiss, the groom would have lipstick all over his lips.
“So, I didn’t clean because of what people were saying out there; I cleaned because I knew her lipstick would be all over my lips. So, for my face not to look awkward, I had to clean it.”

Some had suggested that the gesture meant Akwaboah was not into the lady he had chosen to marry, but Akwaboah maintained that this was not the case.
Also, speculation arose during Akwaboah’s wedding, suggesting that he had fathered children with multiple women and subsequently left them to marry his new wife, purportedly a virgin.
These rumors sparked widespread condemnation on social media, prompting Akwaboah to respond subtly to his critics online.
However, he has now addressed the issue publicly for the first time.
Acknowledging his past relationships and fatherhood, Akwaboah emphasized that his decisions were not made lightly and were driven by specific circumstances.
“In life, these things happen. We give ourselves some timelines or we expect certain things to happen, but they don’t go as planned. But we still move on. Growing up as a man, I wasn’t happy about having children with two separate women and leaving them to marry another. But situations happened, and it’s something I cannot explain now.”

Reflecting on the possibility of maintaining those relationships, Akwaboah admitted that peaceful circumstances might have led to a different outcome.
“Perhaps if those relationships had been more peaceful, I would have remained in them,” he said.
Akwaboah responded when asked why he broke the virginity of two women and decided to settle for a virgin.
“They were not virgins when I met them. As for my wife, I didn’t choose her because she was a virgin. I didn’t even know until I told her I wanted to be with her.”

Akwaboah Quizzes Critics on Worth of His Wedding Venue
Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr’s wedding made waves for its opulence and extravagance, sparking discussions among social media users.
Held on May 3 at the prestigious Kempinski Hotel in Ghana, the event boasted lavish details captured in viral videos and photos.
From the exquisite venue to the meticulously crafted attire, including the bride’s robes by renowned designer Sima Brew, no expense was spared.
Luxury cars, including Rolls Royce, added to the grandeur of the occasion.
Despite his typically modest online presence, his decision to host such an extravagant wedding raised eyebrows.
The situation escalated when Strongman revealed on social media that Akwaboah had reportedly spent approximately GH₵170,000 solely on the Kempinski venue.
Akwaboah revealed the accuracy of Strongman’s claim.
“In life, there are three significant days: the day you’re born, the day you marry, and the day you pass away. These events occur only once. My wife is invaluable, worth more than GH₵170,000. Moreover, I’ve had a successful music career for many years.
“Are people suggesting I can’t afford such things when I choose to? I’m not flaunting wealth; I simply wanted to create a memorable day fitting for the occasion. Whatever I did, I did it to find joy on my special day.”
