Musician Speaks Against 2024 ‘Dumsor’ Under Nana Addo-Bawumia Administration

Kofi Kinaata

Popular Ghanaian musician Kofi Kinaata has shared his views about the recent power crisis that has made things difficult for citizens, especially businesses.

Reflecting on his struggles with the erratic power supply, Kinaata revealed that the worsening power cuts have significantly impacted his business operations.

He described how his employees, stationed at his residence, constantly reach out to him to report on the disruptions caused by the frequent power outages, known locally as “dumsor.”

“I am experiencing it [the power outage] a lot; as I speak now, there is no light at home. Some people who work in the house call me every fifteen (15) minutes to complain about the power outage. That is the reality. It’s not good. When you are watching television and the lights go off, it’s someway.”

Kofi Kinaata

Kofi Kinaata expressed deep concern about the dire state of the country’s electricity supply and called for urgent action to address the issue.

In recent times, numerous complaints have been made by people, including stalwarts of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), about the unstable nature of the power supply in some areas.

Meanwhile, during the State of the Nation’s Address (SONA) on February 27, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo stated that his administration deserves to be applauded after having avoided ‘Dumsor’ (power outage) for seven years since he assumed office.

His remark was met with vehement criticism by some sections of the public who share an opposing view.

The demand for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to provide a load-shedding timetable, as urged by the public, remains unaddressed, leaving uncertainty regarding the future of the power situation.

It is yet to be seen if ECG will release the load-shedding timetable as demanded by the public.

Kinaata Explains Why He Can’t Venture Into Politics

Musician, Kofi Kinaata indicated that he cannot venture into politics like some entertainers have.

According to him, he cannot hide the truth so he will rather focus on his music career rather than think of venturing into politics.

He believes that the people do not like truthful people so it will be difficult for someone like him to win any election.

“I cannot venture into politics. In politics, if something is blue they will say it is green so I can’t. If you tell the truth the people will not vote for you so I won’t even try it.”

Kofi Kinaata

On whether he has been approached by political parties, he noted that several politicians have approached him, stating that he has given up on the country.

“Yes a number of them but I will not want to talk about it. I’m friends with Cheddar and all the other politicians in the country but I don’t support any of them. We will look at policies and programs and follow those we think are feasible.”

Kofi Kinaata

Kofi Kinaata further indicated that it is now difficult for citizens to express themselves without being tagged as a member of one of the leading political parties.

The musician indicated that it is worrying that people have developed a love for their political party rather than the country.

“Over the years, we have been sweet talked by politicians in this country but nothing happens and there is no change. For me, I’ve given up and the people are making things difficult so we cannot address issues because someone thinks he is party A so whatever you’re saying goes against party A so don’t say. He is party B so even if he’s dying… People tend to love their party than the country and so everything is in a mess.”
