Ghanaian radio presenter, Nana Romeo, has stated that rapper Sarkodie should be considered the top rapper in comparison.
He argued that Sarkodie’s accomplishments surpass those of many past musicians, emphasizing that life is about achievements, rather than age.
His remarks were in response to a recent list in a newspaper that highlighted both past and current rappers in Ghana.
The Accra FM radio presenter explained that in Ghana, musicians are recognized for their achievements rather than the number of songs or raps they have.
“Why are we fighting about this list? Graphic Showbiz named their greatest 12 rappers in Ghana of all time, but they didn’t rank them, so it doesn’t even state that Sarkodie is the number one rapper in Ghana … Maybe Joe Frazier’s name didn’t appear because of the same achievements we’re discussing. Lord Kenya also didn’t make the list for the same reasons.
“Achievements in life are key. When awarding radio presenters, they look at the work you’ve done and award you accordingly. The same goes for music, which is why after every award, you see fans getting angry and making noise, but it changes nothing because intellectuals are behind it.”

To support his argument, Nana Romeo stated that Obrafour cannot be compared to Sarkodie in terms of achievements, noting that Sarkodie has accomplished much more.
He emphasized that beyond just rapping, factors like collaborations and features are important, and in his view, Obrafour doesn’t match Sarkodie in these areas.
“Obrafour has done a lot, but he hasn’t outdone the features that Sarkodie has. As we’re all seated here, let me ask you about three of Obrafour’s best international collaborations so far. We can’t mention any apart from the one he did with Awilo.
“We consider all these factors, not just the number of songs and raps you have. Even if Obrafour began singing in 1980 and hasn’t achieved what Sarkodie has, and Sarkodie, who was born recently, has done what Obrafour couldn’t, then he’s big.”

“In Ghana, we often consider everything to be about age. However, in the direction life is heading, age is irrelevant. I still say that Sarkodie is the greatest, whether we like it or not,” he added.
The debate over who is the best or greatest rapper in the history of Ghana’s music remains ongoing.
As time progresses, many names emerge, with some arguing that past musicians and rappers like Lord Kenya, Obrafour, and Reggie Rockstone cannot be compared to the current artists in the country.
Sarkodie’s Achievements Are Immense
Entertainment pundit and politician, Kwame Obeng Asare, popularly known as A Plus, stated that no rapper can be compared to Sarkodie.
According to him, the work Sarkodie has done in the music industry and how long he has maintained his level of success is tremendous and cannot be compared to any rapper in the country.
He mentioned that even though Obrafour, Lord Kenya, and other rappers have contributed significantly to the industry, he believes that Sarkodie’s achievements surpass all of them, making him stand out.
A Plus indicated that there is no need for Sarkodie to be compared to other rappers.
“Lord Kenya is my brother, and Obrafour’s reign and impact on the industry are undeniable. However, Sarkodie’s achievements are immense, and no rapper in Ghana has achieved what he has. Nobody comes close.
“It doesn’t matter if there was internet or what. People say that during Obrafour’s days, there was no internet, but did Sarkodie invent the internet?”

However, Ghanaian rapper, Big Joe Frazier, does not agree with people who put Sarkodie ahead of Ghanaian rappers as the greatest in the history of music in the country.
Some musicians including Keche Joshua, Okyeame Kwame, and others believe Sarkodie is the best rapper Ghana has produced, and therefore there should be no argument.
